A few inevitable negative comments given this place hosts a couple hundred show-goers per evening, but I think much of the negativity is dated. The current chef has changed so much about this place, we were honestly very pleasantly surprised.
While the menu is mostly classics, the chef (previously at le Hachoir) has added some really impressive spins on his dishes, the Burrata with crispy chickpeas was especially tasty! The boudin is homemade & they use filet mignon cut by hand (not frozen) for the tartare de bœuf. Some of the other comments are clearly made-up or simply dated, because I’m guessing this place actually looses money keeping this tartare on their menu.
Also the chef makes his own homemade focaccia, he literally has the yeast rising for days for each batch…. it is no joke the best focaccia, don’t miss it, it’s amazing! I could have happily ruined my appetite eating three servings of just that.
This place made no mistake poaching their current chef, he has made a massive improvement on the menu & the quality of the food.
Also, a nod to the host who was very friendly and welcoming despite having a massive horde of people impatiently waiting. Show-goers are a tough crowd to contend with & this place deals well with it. It’s not their first rodeo, clearly! The host who seated us & the friendly manager who took our order certainly both deserved appreciation!

We’ll be back!

A restaurant systematically frequented before a show for many years for its always impeccable service and excellent food. But this time (November 30, 2024): what a disappointment in terms of food. My usual beef tartare ordered on numerous occasions is this time prepared with a bad cut of meat (tough), without seasoning; he even lost his big caper. The plate is sad with its 4 old dry baguette croutons and arugula without vinaigrette. Something is happening in the kitchen or we have decided to cut quality to maximize revenue. Too bad, very bad!

I did not eat here but I did endure an absolutely rude and insensitive experience with one of the staff members here.

His name is Nicolas. We approached him to simply ask for a piece of ice as my 1 year old son had fallen and his eye was swelling. He responded by telling us that they had no ice and to leave the restaurant immediately. This was not said in a courteous manner whatsoever. They were literally making cocktails WITH ICE at the bar behind him. When confronted, he proceeded to say he did not care and walked away.

This is a disgusting attitude to have when you are representing a restaurant.

Nicolas, I really hope you NEVER have to deal with someone like yourself when in need of help, especially for something so simple. You are heartless.

Kid-friendliness: None whatsoever

Attentive welcome. Come for a 5a7 aperitif. Good to escape the frenzy of festivals outside. A somewhat quirky space lacking atmosphere.

Parking: In the Place des arts parking lot

Bitter disappointment with this restaurant. I ignored the reviews I had read and booked at this restaurant. I wanted to like it given its proximity to performance halls. Luckily, I had very good service, professional and friendly welcome and table service, even though we ordered my flank steak without worrying about the cooking I wanted. As for the food, it's a total disappointment: soft fries and not even a little golden, steak full of tirasses difficult to cut and chew, 100% bland sauce. Unacceptable and inedible dish. Naturally I didn't finish my plate and I've never had to add salt to a dish like that in a restaurant to get some flavor. So, I do not recommend this restaurant in any way. It's a shame to serve $40 dishes of such poor quality. This is valuable because some employees are very friendly. I still tipped 15% for the young people providing the service... I think some of them are students.

Response to restaurant response: The shortcomings I present have already been identified by other people in google reviews. The same answer was given to them and today nothing has changed. Good luck!

I didn't like the service. Evalon as a waitress she must be more patient, she puts pressure on us to order and to finish quickly while the customer is king. Plus she gets angry for not having received tips while her service leaves something to be desired. It’s not professional, I have a duty not to give tips

Updated May 1, 2024: A few years ago, after a clearly unacceptable culinary experience (see below) we promised ourselves not to return to this Bistro. It was by reading a recent article in Le Devoir, on April 19, in which one of the co-owners explained that he had made efforts to satisfy his customers during a period of reflation, that we decided to see if the situation had improved. ERROR! The dishes ordered had no flavor, served in small portions and suffered from a total lack of effort in presentation. My dish, papardelle with mushrooms and duck ($30), which contained only a meager half of a crushed mushroom, looked like a dish you serve at home with leftovers from the day before and was tasteless. The tartare ($26) taken by my partner also had no flavor (not at all spicy) and the pieces served were cut too large. We are fans of good restaurants and are happy to pay for dishes created and presented with care. You won't find either at Place Deschamps!Disappointing experience. The salmon acras served as a starter were almost burnt. The duck confit ordered by my partner was served warm and cold. The beef tartare was "ok". There are hardly any sides served with the plates, despite the high price of the dishes. As for the wine ordered by the glass, a Bordeaux, it was either at the end of its life or it was a bottle opened a few days ago, therefore presence of oxidation. The service was adequate although we received a certain indifference when we expressed our dissatisfaction.Despite an ideal location before (or after) a concert, a play or a show at Place des arts, the low quality/price ratio recently observed and the comments collected from people who were also very disappointed with their recent experiences at Place Deschamps, it was also our last visit for us.

Honestly, pleasantly surprised!I was waiting to go see the OSM. A service that is both super-fast and professional by Vincent, at the bar. I ordered the sea bream, how fresh! Perfect execution, with green pea puree and fennel and mint salad. I really didn't expect such a successful dish, such an exquisite balance of flavors. Well done!
