Does not feel like a formal cafe/restaurant and that what is great about it

This place rules. Get the fermented french fries. And the non stop Kolsch. And get everything really.

The cocktails aren’t the best. Food was okay at best. However, the rooftop terrace was really cute and the staff was really nice

One of the best bars in Montreal, only quality on the menu, the food is amazing, the staff friendly and very good advice (especially on wine).

Edit 2024: the default tip on the machine now starts at 18%, which seems particularly excessive to me, I am lowering my rating to 4*.

Came across this restaurant in Chinatown unexpectedly and it was a great surprise. Great food and beer & wine selection. Really nice vibe for an evening date, with friends, or even solo. Good vegan options as well.

In front of you, a display board as big as the world details the destinations of the next flights. Paris. Singapore. Buenos Aires. Ulaanbaatar. Herouxville. It's all there. Your feverish eyes contemplate the infinite possibilities. Where will your heart take you this time? Adventure awaits you.
You're having a hard time, aren't you? So many lands to tread, so many wonders to discover, so many cultures to savor. Having the world at our fingertips and traveling wherever we want seems like a dream too good to be true. And yet…
Since I brought together almost all of the good gastronomic places in Montreal and its surroundings on a map, there is now a range of more than 1700 restaurants, cafes, bars, pastries, etc. which stretches out in front of me every time I feel like going out. 1700 unique and (potentially) wonderful places that just want to welcome me and us. Some manage to make us smile, others manage to delight us with such delight that we will not fail to return.
Poincaré certainly remains an integral part of this second class. It’s one of those rare locations in Montreal where the pleasure of eating, refinement, character, sharing, picturesqueness and price come together. This is where the really “cool” people go (says my older brother, I’m allergic to anglicisms).
As we climb the white-tiled markets, which take us above a bánh mì shop, we pass a series of textured canvases giving pride of place to expressionism. Then, we enter a large, refined and contemporary dining room where neutral colors tend to be used on the furniture and walls. The simplification continues when we reach the terrace where picnic tables are lined up in a sort of cage with white bars. We would have happily stayed there, but the chilly weather did not lend itself to dining under the stars. We go back down to the completely empty dining room at this early hour and order three of their excellent cocktails: the operador Suave with its very persuasive smoky side, the PUNCH and the... the name of the third escapes me. But regardless, you can't go wrong.
The long menu of around twenty dishes only contains dishes with tempting descriptions, but since there are only three of us, the tasting will have to be contained and retain only six or seven:
Grilled sourdough bread (with sauce!) — $3.
Kimchi (which will not disorient fans of Korean food. Personally, I would have skipped this one to discover something more special) — $7.
Radishes 3 ways (candied, fermented and raw radishes with pesto sauce, but I have trouble discerning them and the pesto doesn't bring out the flavors. The dish I like the least) — $9.
Fries fermented for 7 days – (in this case, the fermentation really brought out the taste of the potato and we enjoyed it with the mayonnaise) – $11.
Mushrooms from the 400-foot farm — (mushrooms the way I like them! I pass through without really realizing it. Oh!) — $14
Sardines (the most tender and tastiest I have tasted. I want to know the preparation method: cold smoked, then grilled. Yum) — (a dozen $)
Beef and broccoli (the dish that reminds me most of its flavors - and happily - that we are in Chinatown) - $18.
To my regret, the only dessert is no longer available and the waitress, courteous but, that evening, characterized by a practically contagious lack of enthusiasm, advised us to visit the Coco patisserie not far away. Something not done, because we prefer Chinese cotton candy…

So, had it not been for the lackluster service, my odyssey to Poincaré would have completely satisfied me. This restaurant succeeds in the audacious challenge of combining culinary creativity, contemporary ambiance and affordable prices. The diversity of dishes offers a fascinating taste journey. This is a precious table to go to as a group.

Vegetarian options: The menu changes with the seasons and offers a wide variety of vegetarian and carnivorous dishes.

Really cool multiple-floor rooftop bar (definitely go to the rooftop) in the middle of Montréal's organic Chinatown named after mathematician Henri Poincaré. Fun mathematical designs and creative drinks for anyone looking to enjoy a night out drinking in the fresh air.

I had a mezcal that was wonderfully spiced and my partner had a sweet cocktail that was also delicious.

Wish they had more references to the Poincaré Conjecture being resolved ?

Meager portions, the food seems interesting on paper but it's just vinegary, 18% minimum tip is boring
