Baba in Complex Desjardins is a good spot for a quick meal. The shawarma is fairly ordinary and nothing special, but the fried potatoes that come with it are exceptional—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and easily some of the best in Montréal. While the main dish may not stand out, the fries alone make it worth stopping by. A solid choice if you’re craving something simple with truly amazing sides.
I regularly come here for lunch. For $12, you can get a chicken shawarma sandwich and they let you customize it based on your preferences. Removing a star because sometimes they leave the sandwich in the panini press for too long and cause it to char. But they are very efficient at processing the long lunch lines, and the staff is friendly enough.
As someone who grew up in the Middle East, I am incredibly critical of middle eastern food, but I have to say, this place is spectacular. Seems very unassuming – mall food court, yet it’s genuinely a hidden gem.
