Every time I eat at L'Orignal, I am blown away. It is quite possibly my favourite restaurant in the city at this point. From the amazing food, to the outstanding service, to the cozy decor, this place always delivers. Michael & his staff are always on-point -- friendly, warm, and fast. I'm not the kind of person to care much for specials, as I typically go with what I know I already love. However, at L'Orignal, the specials always pique my interest, so we usually get one with our order. They're always stellar. L'Orignal is perfect for large groups, a small family gathering, and even for date night. I can't wait to come back soon!

Great spot for a romantic rendez-vous or a satisfying meal with friends and family. Try the oysters! Great list of appetizers! Limited list of main courses at first glance but ask for the specials and you will find something for every taste! Finish with an espresso shot and you will leave content and very satisfied! I've travelled and dined globally and have friends who have a 2 Michelin star restaurant in Barcelona (Shout out to Mont Bar) but theres something extra special about l'Original. Michael, the owner, personally shucks the incredibly fresh East Coast oysters and their targeted menu includes many “hits”. Warm, welcoming and inclusive, this place is my “go to” restaurant in Old Montreal. If you're “high maintenance”, this may not suit your tastes but everything here is great - cocktails, food, casual but still a destination restaurant. Just today (Jan 15/26) saw a Montreal Canadiens legend dining with friends here.

Our family traveled to Montreal for the thanksgiving holiday. We had our thanksgiving meal at L’Orignal. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and shown to our table. Throughout we had fast and very friendly service. The food was excellent, the atmosphere cozy and the prices fair. We loved it.

We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience! I ordered the braised beef cheek and it was incredibly tender, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. My husband had the bison tomahawk and he was genuinely amazed — easily one of the best meals he’s had in a long time.
The place itself is very cozy, almost like a warm and inviting chalet, which made the whole evening feel even more special.
To top it all off, the chef came by our table to say hi, and he was truly awesome and friendly, passionate, and clearly proud of his craft.
Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for exceptional food, a cozy atmosphere, and a memorable experience!
