Montreal smoked meat sandwich and routines were awesome.....just as advertised, it's not a restaurant for atmosphere because it was crazy busy....but when it's as good as it is and not the kind of place to sit and linger

Best Montreal smoked meat. A must when visiting Montreal. If you live in Montreal make it a regular stop. So good

Montreal smoked meat was divine. Fries were pretty underseasoned and a bit overcooked but the sandwich made up for it. Pickle was meh. The line moves fast but it is an endeavor...
Truly a classic eating place in Montreal. Food and an experience not to be missed.

The vibe was super unique, and the food was awesome. We got poutine with smoked meat as well as a smoked meat sandwich, and both were great.
Staff were friendly and we were served really quick.

It was fine.
Had to pay for the pickle.
Costco smoked meat Sammy was just as good and the pickle was free.

Buyer Beware – Disappointing Take-Out Experience
As someone who has enjoyed smoked meat across Montreal for years, I know the difference between a proper hand-cut portion and trimmings passed off as a meal. I recently bought smoked meat by the pound to go, expecting the same quality as what’s served in-house. Unfortunately, what I received was mostly fatty trimmings and uneven chunks rather than the carefully sliced cuts you’d expect.
For the same price, the smoked meat sandwich served in the restaurant is far superior—thinly sliced, well-balanced, and with much better meat-to-fat ratio. Ordering by the pound should deliver that same standard, but it did not.
If you’re a true smoked meat fan, you’ll be disappointed ordering this way. Stick to the in-house sandwich; at least you’ll know you’re getting the real Montreal smoked meat experience.

Get the fatty sandwich. Lean is for beginners.

We ordered the medium smoked meat and the turkey sandwich, coleslaw and half sour pickles with cherry Coke. The lineup was a good 20-30 minutes for lunch so try to get there early, the place was packed. We love it there

The smoked meat is good, but not exceptional—you can find similar or better elsewhere. The space is extremely tight, and they try to pack in as many people as possible, making the experience uncomfortable. The air inside felt stuffy and unpleasant, and the cleanliness did not meet expectations given the high customer volume. Most disappointing was the staff’s attitude—unwelcoming and at times outright rude. Overall, the hype does not match the reality. It’s a no for me.
If you're in Montreal, you have to try this smoked meat sandwich - it's classic for a reason. The meat is piled high, perfectly seasoned, smoky and tender with just the right amount of fat for flavor. It's messy, hearty, and absolutely delicious! We paired it with a pickle and a slaw to get the full experience. Definitely worth the hype!
