I had the dinner. Definitely the same food as in Japan, but with a faster pace (1.8 hours to finish all 20+ dishes). This made me think about my good time in Japan. But the only problem is that you have to pay twice as much to get this good food. Most dishes were well-made by the chef. Love all the food. The servers were super friendly. Would love to go back here.

Fabuleux! Nous avions l'impression d'être dans un épisode de Chef's Table, au Japon! Chaque plat était exceptionnel, le service charmant et attentif. Une expérience hautement recommandée.

What an absolutely fantastic and delicious experience Well done to this restaurant Like nothing I have eaten before and so passionately made and delivered

Good experience if you're looking for a dinner and show. Quality of food could be much better for the price. The fish was sometimes chewy, fishy, and overly salty.

This dining experience was the most enjoyable ever! The dishes were served in small portions Tapas style. I don't even remember how many we had but there were alot. They just kept coming. All prepared in front of our eyes with fresh ingredients. Every single one was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable. We were told what each dish was and where the ingredients came from in Japan. They had imported Sake that was also very delightful. Pricey YES,worth it 100%. We did this for a special occasion. Highly recommended a memorable experience.

Quelle belle et exquise expérience culinaire. Haute gastronomie japonaise, service impeccable, atmosphère agréable, douce et pleine, diverses attentions subtiles mais présentes; bref, une soirée mémorable.

Even without booking a flight or hotel to Japan, visiting Okeya Kyujiro offers an authentic taste of traditional Japanese atmosphere, cuisine, and hospitality. The team puts incredible effort into recreating the full Japanese experience — from the tableware and ingredients to the staff and every fine detail. The cooking performance is polished and elegant, and the chef's pristine white uniform stays spotless throughout the service. Even areas that guests rarely see, like the kitchen floor, are kept immaculately clean without a trace of debris. As a fellow Japanese, I feel genuinely proud to see such dedication and craftsmanship.

Tldr: Overall, would recommend.
The restaurant sells the experience of an authentic japanese restaurant, and it excels. Food is very good, and as far as i can tell, it is authentic ; but if you come in expecting flavors akin to that of a michelin restaurant, you may be disappointed.

Its main strength is the experience it sells. As far as my memory recalls, the mannerisms of the staff and choice of food is very remiscent of my experience in japan. It it were not for the other Quebecer patrons, it really felt like i was brought back to Japan.

Although the food was quite good (with excellent selections, including miyazaki wagyu and crown melon for the supper menu when i went), it isnt anything extraordinary taste wise (say, compared to 1 star michelin restaurants). This standard may be harsh, but given the price, i find it to be a fair comparison point. Mind you, the food is still very good, but i wouldn't say it's the restaurant's best strength. The flavor profiles, however, are very typical to that of an authentic japanese restaurant - and authentic restaurants aren't typically michelin quality.

Some update. I’ve visited this place twice—once about two years ago and again last month. The meal was excellent both times, and it’s clear the chef is highly skilled. However, I’m not sure I’d return unless it’s on the company’s dime. Having traveled to Japan many times and experienced a wide variety of authentic cuisine, I feel this restaurant is overpriced for what it offers. Unfortunately, it seems to be a common issue in Canada—getting exceptional Japanese food here often comes with a premium $$$

‘Stingy’ is an understatement. Been living in Japan and having dined at similar price point around the globe, this place is just ridiculous. Fish were NOT fresh. Tiny nigiri and thinly cut sashimi (which had no respect of fish texture will make a sushi master jump and curse at the pupil) are beyond my 25 years of dining experience at any Japanese restaurants. The bill will cover your travel expenses to NYC or Toronto for better sushi.

Btw, this establishment should not hang its Michelin star sign when Michelin hasn’t yet came to Montreal. It’s false advertising.

We were rushed to eat, the service was going way too fast, we couldn’t understand anything when the server was explaining the exotic fish/product we were eating, the restaurant as well as the kimono the servers were wearing were dirty and full of dust, they shown us fish that weren’t fresh as their eyes were gloomy and whitish, sushi didn’t taste fresh.. bill cost 900$. Incredibly disappointing, felt and tasted like a scam.

It's a theatrical omakase place and obviously there is some theatrics involved. However that also brings the possibility of having rowdy patrons and that was a deal breaker for us. Food wise there are scopes for improvements, especially at this price point. But there are not many places in Montreal to offer an authentic omakase experience.
