Mediterranean excellence

Forgive me if my mind is numb this evening, I have a day of activities in the big sun in my body - you should have seen the state of K. - and I spent another four frustrating hours an artistic product without any notable outcome. My current predominant feeling is therefore languor.

It is during episodes of fatigue that I question certain demanding activities with uncertain benefits in which I indulge. Sometimes I need up to two hours to write a simple restaurant review. In other words, I spend almost as much time sitting on my bare armchair talking about my gastronomic experience as I do living it. Therefore, it is essential to find meaning in it, otherwise, what is the point?

A first benefit is the exercise of writing. While not a weak subject at school, it was an underdeveloped skill that now serves me personally and professionally. A second benefit is, of course, the very purpose of a review, that is to say, to share, inform, help, both future customers and owners. A third benefit derives from my decision to transform these critiques into a story that I could reread to immerse myself in certain happy moments of my life. The one at Yam was one of these.

First and foremost, it was the Sunday meeting of the three musketeers, K., A. and myself. Everyone was enthusiastic, especially A., who, at the idea of getting together around a good meal, swung his arms and hips with joy. Moreover, the laughing enthusiasm only grew stronger over the drinks and dishes as everyone liked them: the slush (perfectly brewed and fruity, without unpleasant clumps of ice cubes) the mok (homemade juice that we combines with a refreshing salad of the day) the Boreas (salmon gravlax sandwich, K.'s favorite), the Hermès (chicken sandwich, my first choice), the Gaïa (halloumi pancake, tied with the 'Hermès, according to A.) and pistachio (crepe with pistachio cream for dessert). The sandwiches, tender, rich in flavor and deliciously decorated with their respective sauce, were better shared than the crepes, supple, soft and dripping, elegantly held vertically in a golden crepe holder, collecting layers and layers of Mediterranean goodness .

It is regrettable, however, that my tepid exchanges with the employees were not as delectable as the dishes tasted. I would have preferred them sprinkled with a little more cordiality on their part while I added my own with smiles, praise, and remarks of all kinds. Moreover, praise also poured out from the next table:

“It was delicious,” said the lady sitting to our right to the cook who came to collect the dishes. “I’m going to advertise to you.”

I’ll take care of that too! In fact, it’s already done!

While I saw two young people (tourists?) checking their phones in front of the facade of the Yam, I left my comfortable seat on the beautiful and attractive terrace equipped with a swing to urge them to eat there. They took me at my word and didn’t eat their fingers!

So I’m adding the Yam to my mental list of the best sandwiches in Montreal, hoping that you like them as much as we do!

When passing through Montreal, it’s a great discovery! Between the Mediterranean style of the place, the friendliness of the waiters and the delight of the sandwiches, it’s flawless! I had never tasted a sandwich recipe like the one I had (the Boreas). I recommend!

Rating ONLY for service. We’ve wanted to try YAM. We waited a couple of minutes before someone showed up. I’ve innocently asked if I could swap an ingredient. A yes or a no would have been enough and I would have tried any way. But the owner/waiter decided to start a monologue and looked down at my demand claiming that he would be responsible if that’s not good. That the recipe must be unchanged and that basically it was outrageous for me to ask. All of that with a passive agressive tone, no smile and a hint of angriness. What a welcome. It’s time to learn how to deal with clients and not mixed personal emotions ffs. I left.

This place is fairly new. They recently opened and they still have a lot to do. The washrooms aren’t functional and are unavailable for the public. They also get out of stock very quickly. I went on a Saturday at around 4 pm and they didn’t have their beef sandwich anymore:( we decided to buy a chicken sandwich and a salmon one. They were both good! I really liked the ambiance. Very clean, aesthetically pleasing and peaceful. It fits the vibes. I highly recommend everyone to try it at least once. Oh, and did I mention? Everything is halal!

Attracted by the beautifully decorated storefront and the hunger, I did not regret my stop, whether in terms of the service or the cuisine. I particularly recommend the Hermes and the Iris!
