An originality in the entrance, an exceptional homemade honey to taste. Our best table in Quebec.(Original)Un restaurant bien placé sur la Rue St. Jean, ne faisant pas piège à touriste, nous dirions même avec un certain raffinement. Healthy gourmet dining.Your biome will thank you.
We ate here one evening back in January, 2018 while staying at the attached Hotel de Vieux-Quebec. It was one of QC’s best rated restaurants then, and it still is now, which says a lot. Great location, a lively but relaxed atmosphere, and great food made from fresh ingredients. And as I recall, the cocktails didn’t disappoint either….
Fantastic experience, end to end! My wife and I stumbled upon this quaint bistro for a small bite and a beer on the patio and ended up polishing off full meals with not a scrap left on our plates. Kudos to the chef for a wonderful, fresh presentation of locally sourced and/or organic fare - and, our server steered us in the right direction with a couple of locally brewed draughts that capped a great experience.
The restaurant is on the ground level of the Hotel Du Vieux. We enjoyed the food and the service. We ate early so it was quiet,
While staying at the Hotel Du Vieux Quebec, we enjoyed the convenience of entering the restaurant through the foyer adjoining both establishments. The food was delicious, the menu varied, and the wine list extensive. Dining in the restaurant was delightful, as was getting carry-out for our room. Definitely put this restaurant on your list when visiting Vieux Quebec.
For a group of four friends, we shared the “organic crush” - highly recommended! This entree (ie., appetizer) had a sampling of local cheeses, wild boar rillette, chicken liver mousse, etc... including a dab of their local honey (which can also be sampled from a honey comb at the restaurant entrance). This is a farm-to-restaurant place with fresh local produce, so I went for the chef’s special vegan meal and it was delicious. Will definitely return.
The hotel uses the restaurant for its breakfast served to guests in the cutest little basket. The pain subsides chocolate and croissants were divine so I had high hope for eating at the restaurant. Myself and three friends were on vacation and received good news so we went there for a celebratory lunch. It was very disappointing. One of my friends ordered poutine as she had never had it. It wasn’t even close to traditional poutine. To give you a idea they used a couple of potatoe slices - yes slices. We all know this is not poutine! I ordered the fish and chips and I was so unsatisfied. I can’t remember exactly but the chips were spicy. I asked for ketchup to mask the spice and was given this sauce that was spicy not tomato flavoured. It was a very expensive lunch for what it was and it wasn’t enjoyable. They have the capability of doing really nice food as demonstrated in the breakfast baskets. Out of the four of us we had three different entrees and none of us were pleased. If you go, go fir breakfast. Would not recommend for lunch or dinner.
This little restaurant was right around the corner for the Monasterie des Augustine, where my friend and I stayed. It was our first and last meal while visiting QC. We were there during a blizzard and bundled up in so many clothes but we did not have to worry about our dress since everyone was bundled up. We were seated promptly and the staff was very friendly. This seemed to be the way of the Quebecois. The cheese plate was fantastic and served with little mellon balls soaked in port along side of house made chutney. I had the seafood chowder, which was just the right amount and my friend had the filet, which she raved about.

We enjoyed one of our best dinners in a very long time at Tornebroche last night. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everything was incredible. We had the smoked chicken that was amazing, as was the filet mignon. Holy cow and holy chicken! No pun intended, but wow! I won’t elaborate too much because I urge you to try for yourself. The service was absolutely first rate, and so helpful. The mindset and thought behind the restaurant is one of being true to local sourcing and local supply. They execute amazingly. One small piece of advice, don’t try to order something as pedestrian as a Coors Light, please.
Poutine is a dish which at bare minimum contains cheese curds and fires. While I was prepared to be disappointed (cheese curds, really) I was more than just surprised. The dish is tasty and hardy with a smoky gravy and chicken. At Tournebroche, the fries are large slices of potato. It must be tried to be appreciated. The salmon tartar was very good. A local white wine accompanied our meal.
We were here for lunch. I had fish and chips, my husband had the burger. The meals had great presentation, were quite tasty (lovely homemade French fries), and were quite filling. The restaurant is listed as elegant dining...perhaps it is for dinner but definitely not for lunch. The wait staff wore casual and the service was quite slow.
Made a reservation, food was cooked perfectly and presented elegantly. We had the filet mignon and the chowder paired with a good suggested wine. This restaurant has a very neat concept and it is great to see how delicious it is. The staff was helpful and not pushing for us to leave. Highly recommended.
We made reservations which I highly recommend. Okay, this place has gotten great reviews overall so why not try it? Well, we did. And I’m sorry to say our experience was not great. My husband and I are quite easy-going but there were a few things I wasn’t happy about. Know that is usually crowded on the weekend plus it’s 2 days before New Years Eve. We were seated promptly and it is a cosy but modern feel inside. Very Nice. The menus were given to us immediately as well as bread and olive oil. The server came to our table, explained 2 dishes and took my husband’s drink order. She came back & we gave her our order. A very rushed feeling. About 10 minutes later our food came. He ordered the tenderloin which was petite but good. I ordered the cheese fondant which was basically balls of a mild cheese fried. Barely any sauce and no flavor. My husband wasn’t even halfway through his meal when she came back & started to take my plate away! I personally don’t like when waitstaff removes a plate while other people at the table are still eating. Again, totally rushed. Kept my plate anyway until he was done. Back she came & returned with dessert menus. The desserts were fairly good. She then brought the check, walked away for about 2 seconds, came back as he was putting the money on the table-but not finished getting it all out of his wallet- and she literally picked up the money! I told her he wasn’t finished yet so she stood there. Finally I said, “ Would you please give us a minute?! He isn’t done yet!!” Honestly I never have felt so pushed through a meal and a mediocre meal at that. I hope others have a better experience but there are so many nice bistros around that are much better
