2025 edit: Looks like the restaurant was sold to a new owner in March 2025 approximately.

The menu stayed the same but the execution and recipes were completely different. It's no longer the same restaurant and taste we were all accustomed to.

The new owner seems to be energetic and enthusiastic about the acquisition. I believe she has a positive outlook for the restaurant however perhaps a bit too positive to the point it seemed forced and made it hard for customers to be honest.

Every time a dish was served, she would come asking how the food is, and immediately boast about how good it is, how much better it is than the previous recipes. This approach leaves no room for honesty.

Me and my family have been going there regularly at least once a month for the last few years and we are honestly disappointed that despite acquiring the restaurant and most likely all their recipes, they have decided to completely change everything about it. There is no trace of Fu Jia left except for the decor and the menu.

Not to be harsh, but it is borderline arrogant and ignorant to believe that everything needed a change and even promote it as better and improved. This restaurant stayed afloat for more than 10 years for a reason, and it's quite a risky move to disturb all the regulars so suddenly. They should have first tried to replicate what is currently working and slowly alternate with genuine feedback.

Here's the honest feedback on your new menu that we were unable to tell you:

Guobaorou: their best seller dish. With all honesty, the old recipe was better in every aspect. The current sauce is thin/watery. The previous sauce had a stickier consistency that made the bold flavor be better coated. The batter was light yet crispy. The new batter that seems to be heavy on starch or flour to give that crispy rice texture is a downgrade. Its hard and unpleasant, and with the watery sauce you serve it does not coat your porc. Not the execution for this dish.

Chili Chicken: the amount of dry chili provided is generous but its ultimately uneatable. There is less chicken than before and the complete removal of fresh chili limits the dish to be chicken only. Flavor was decent however.

Yuxiang Fish: this was your best dish. It was delicious!

Eggplant, Potatoes and Green Peppers: this was another extremely popular dish, and was our family's favorite. The sauce is inferior to the previous recipe, it is not as flavorful, they also used to provide red and green pepper adding to the colorfulness of the dish. The potato was the most impacted, it used to taste amazing, with a nice thin crunch and a fluffy inside that had a strong potato flavor, now the flavor of the potato is not as forward, perhaps the cooking method? Eggplant also suffered a bit.

Cucumber with Potato Noodle: the potato noodle was mushy and simply disintegrated when we tried to grab it. It used to be solid and QQ.

Potatoes and Green Peppers: the strong vinegary flavor was gone, and the potato texture is just not right.

Spicy Clams: another great seller that suffered a downgrade, the sauce and ingredients that used to coat the clam is no longer present.

This review may feel harsh to you, but I believe this honesty is necessary for you to stir your investment in the right direction. I had other friends and families who also tried your new recipes and did not like it at all, and I dont think this is the first impression you'd want to give to the regulars because they wont come back.

You may want to reconsider a few decisions and approaches.

All the best to you, we may come back in 6 months to see if there is any improvement. We believe in second chance.

Awesome traditional Harbin cuisine.
Very flavourful. I recommend the braised pork belly dishes and also the Yu Xiang eggplant.
Owner was very adorable and nice.

The restaurant has recently changed owners, but surprisingly, the quality, quantity and service of the dishes have remained the same, very authentic Northeastern flavor. The staff are also very warm and thoughtful.

Disappointed and frustrated service

Everything was normal until we paying the bill. We asked if we could pay cash. Server lady was rude and assumed we are not planning to pay tips. Then she added 15 or 20% tips into the bill, when I mentioned it she is giving me more attitude.

I never said anything about not paying tips, her attitude was totally different with other customers.

We thought this would be a good Chinese restaurant, but she was very disrespectful. Food was ok, but I’ll never be in even close to this area again.

Very very rich!! The food is amazing!! We loved it, we are from China and arriving to a place where it is far from home, eating this makes us feel like we returned to China, I highly recommend the restaurant, plus the dishes come out quickly and are quite abundant! The service, very good! It is a restaurant that is run by a couple, it is very well run! The space, although very small, does not feel cramped!

It is a small family business. The atmosphere is relaxing and it is a typical small family run restaurant. The taste is OK, typical of family restaurant. The quantity of each disk is well too little ( I would like say it is only about 70% of a typical disk)

8 people. Tip included 33$ each. Wonton soup, spicy clams x 2, green beans x 2, cumin pork x 2, general Tao x 1, eggplant dish x1, spicy fish x 1. Every dish was freshly made, hot, the spice level was excellent! Addictive! Service was good! Can’t wait to go back.

The big noodles are just cucumbers with a little bit of noodles. The steamed pork buns are super sour. I asked the lady boss for a bowl to eat, but she was not willing to give it to me. I was very disappointed.
