“Nestled in the heart of bustling Magog, Quebec, I stumbled upon a charming little brunch spot that turned out to be a true hidden gem. With its warm ambiance, steady buzz of conversation, and the scent of fresh coffee wafting through the air, this cozy café immediately set the tone for a memorable morning.
We began our experience with a round of craft beverages—Dirty Chai, London Fog, and a robust Italiano, all beautifully presented. The London Fog was a standout—silky smooth with an aromatic depth that’s hard to find in your typical coffee chain. The subtle interplay between the Earl Grey tea and steamed milk, delicately sweetened with vanilla, made it feel both familiar and elevated. The Dirty Chai, on the other hand, had a mysterious spice note—something almost elusive, perhaps cardamom or clove—that gave it a rich, complex profile. It was bold, comforting, and absolutely worth savoring.
For the main event, we ordered two of their signature dishes: the Atlantique and the Italiano. While both featured the classic brunch foundation of perfectly poached eggs nestled atop a toasted English muffin, they each brought their own character. The Atlantique, layered with smoked salmon, was light yet indulgent, with the fish adding a briny richness that paired beautifully with the creamy hollandaise. The Italiano leaned heartier, featuring thick-cut bacon that was crisped to perfection, adding a satisfying crunch with every bite. In both dishes, the eggs were poached with precision—yolks gloriously runny, gently cascading over each forkful.
Accompanying the main plates were fresh seasonal fruits, and I truly mean fresh. Each bite of melon, berry, and citrus tasted like it had just been picked. The textures were vibrant, the flavors natural and sweet—an underrated detail that elevated the entire experience.
But the unsung hero of the meal? The waffle. Light, golden, and airy, it soaked up the pure maple syrup like a sponge, creating a perfect sweet-and-savory contrast when paired with eggs and bacon. It was indulgent, yet not overly heavy—exactly what you hope for in a Quebecois brunch.
The café itself is located on a lively street in downtown Magog, surrounded by quaint shops and ideal for a post-brunch stroll. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s a place that invites you to slow down, sip slowly, and savor every bite.

“I can’t say enough good things about Shalimar, my go-to spot for a delicious meal every two weeks. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to unwind. The food here is absolutely phenomenal! Each dish is always cooked to perfection. The staff truly makes this place stand out.It’s my favorite spot, and I can’t recommend it enough!“

“Cool venue but don’t order the Chef’s Sharing Plate - Surf. Found under the Grill section of the menu for 110$. The entire plate was deep fried. It was so disappointing and no where was it indicated. This is false marketing and we never would have ordered had we known. OMG should do better.“

“I really enjoyed my chicken burrito bowl. It was generous, super filling, and even though the price is a little steep, it can literally be eaten of 2-3 meals (I did get extra chicken though). The burrito (which we got with the pulled beef) is the size of a small infant, and can therefore also be consumed over multiple meals, which is awesome.
By the drinks fountain, they have a bunch of hot sauces which is amazing if you like spice (do try the chipotle tabasco and the scotch bonnet as they are very flavourful, but at your own risk lol)“
