The place is small, but has plenty of space to dine in. It’s very bright. the people that run it are friendly and helpful. The food is really wonderful. I’ve had their bowls with steak and chicken. The plantains and their side dishes are cooked perfectly but the highlight for me is their barbecue Their smoked brisket is heaven in your mouth and they complement it with delicious corn bread and homemade pickles that are out of this world overall some of the best food on Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island. I highly recommend you going there.

Always so tasty and I love their commitment to not using seed oils. Definitely my go to when I need a meal that’s both delicious and makes me feel good. I always order enough for leftovers to eat at lunch the next day. Sweet chili sauce on the chicken is my favorite!

We tired of spending $100.00's + for mediocre food and modest portions at the downtown restaurants of Newport. This is a wonderful alternative. I was not crazy about my 2 tacos because they were served in soft shells (not fried, not toasted, not seasoned) but my s.o. loved her shrimp bowl. The portions were better than good size. We were very satisfied with our decision. Our savings of at least $50.00 was used to purchase a reasonable bottle of wine on the way back to our hotel, and we enjoyed a DVD in the "comfort" of our hotel room as the cold rain poured down outside. The Food Shack is an easy 10 minute drive from downtown each way, in mid-November off season traffic at 5PM. I will definitely be back. This is a busy place, so you must call ahead. There are many delivery options offered on line too, in case your parking situation seriously inhibits your freedom to travel around Newport in your own vehicle. Until December, the parking lots downtown charge $10.00/hour (ask people who cannot walk to the Red Parrot!) LOL! Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

I enjoyed my first time here, the food was really good. I ordered shrimp tacos which came with chips and I ordered queso. The seats are really hard for those with boney butts, though, aside from that I think this is a great place to enjoy a midday lunch.

Great food at a great price (Tuesday was 2 tacos for $10). I had the ginger beef and pulled pork tacos, and they came with chips too on the side. Come on by and fill up on some tacos! Will note there was no bathroom inside, but I didn't ask if there was one outside or not.

They were offering free delivery so we gave it a go. I have an avocado allergy so I asked for none on my burrito. When the order arrived by delivery 2 of our entrees were missing. There was a note on the receipt that said they cooked in avocado oil so didn’t send the burrito. Another bowl was missing and a dessert. As you can imagine this was irritating to not have meals for two people. They could have easily called and asked if we would prefer something else when it came to the burrito. Really bad service. The other entrees also had the incorrect type of rice with the meals. When I called the hostess seemed confused and unable to deal with the issue with any customer service experience. I ended up calling back after she said she would refund the two missing meals, and just asking to pick up the food that was missing. There was an extra cookie in the pickup bag and chips. Which was pretty nice.
