A friend who grew up here recommended this place. We went at 12:30 and assumed it would be flooded with tourists…it wasn’t. Great vibes and the service was good. We had fried whole belly clams, a lobster roll and a clam chowdah. Boy was everything tasty and reasonably priced. We’re stopping by for lunch again tomorrow on our way out of town!
Saw this spot on a recent blog & had to give it a try. Incredibly fresh fish & yummy chowder that was very hot (nothing worse than lukewarm chowder!) Everyone came out smiling.
Funky place with a fun vibe. We ordered two fish sandwich specials which included fries, Cole slaw, and a beer. We were charged for the beer erroneously. Server fixed but seemed annoyed. Delicious fish sandwiches and fries. Cole slaw seemed off. Locals recommended this place and we saw why.
The parking space is really difficult to find. No valet parking, even though should be, considering a "popularity" of this place. Long wait until you get to the counter to order food, average wait time to order food is between 30 to 40 min., then you get a beeper to let you know when you food is ready to pick up (another 30 minutes). Self service, you clean the table after yourself. Tables are dirty, the floor is full of small pieces of whatever customers ordered. Nobody cleans. But they have open terrace with ocean view. The only positive thing about this place. Food is greasy and tasteless. Not a friendly atmosphere, in my opinion - bad management.
Short walk from 1st Beach. Pleasant atmosphere with good seafood. I had fish & chips where the breading was just right not overbearing leaving one wondering where’s the fish? Wife had the seafood platter & she was not disappointed. Note on Trip Advisor it was listed place is cash only but maybe that was in past. They accept card payments now.
The lobster was good but the roll too buttery. Coleslaw lacked an original coleslaw flavor. I expected fresh onion rings and was very disappointed the onion rings appeared to be frozen rounds with very little onion in them.
Mid. Raw oysters and a friendly raw bar employee were my highlights. Fried seafood platter is whatever. Wasn’t great but refueled me after a 10 hour drive. Also had a bit of an eyeroll seeing the Ivanka and Trump47 license plates above the bar.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Flo’s. We were really hungry after visiting the Newport mansions and cliff walk, but when we got here there was still a bit of a line. The wait was worth it! We split the fried seafood platter and it had enough food for four people. Two of us could finish it despite being famished. The place was a little hard to fins, since it’s kid of behind the hotels across from the beach. And parking is limited and tight, so bring your patience.
Went Newport and had to go to Flo’s. I heard so much about the clam shack and had to give it a try. I really don’t want to give a bad review because the food was very good but the low rating is aimed at the lobster roll that I had. For $27 the roll was not packed with enough lobster. Like I said it was very good but not worth the cost. My wife had the whole clam platter which was very good as well.
Flo's is an institution in Middletown. The food is very fresh and the portions are HUGE. The fried clams are extremely good. The clam chowder is also very tasty--very fresh and you can taste the individual ingredients in harmony. The stuffie is the size of a child's head and very tasty--one can easily feed 2 people as an appetizer. The ordering here is a bit quirky. You order anything fried from the window downstairs and anything else from the raw bar upstairs. (and you pay separately upstairs and down). HInt--find a table if you're dining in and figure out what you want--then send 1 person to order upstairs/downstairs while someone else holds your table. It can get crowded!

Definitely not the Flos I remember food was ok at best lobster roll was unimpressive and clamp strip was way more breading than clam. Working with a new purchasing system and they need that thing fixed. gave me a total i gave my card couldnt get it to work. 10+ minutes and a manager later ended up changing the total and they couldn't tell me why so idk. For a $250 lunch/5 people there are better options in that area.

Place is ok. Nothing to write home about, to order food you have to go either upstairs or downstairs depending on what you want. It gets cramped and busy when you want to order and have to wait in line. For the price I expected more.
The parking lot is always fun, no one seems to understand that you're supposed to park between the white lines and not on top of them...

The Clam Shack was very disappointing. In general, there was more batter than food, and it was greasy and tasteless. For example, the batter on the onion rings was thick and the actual onion ring inside had the width of a thin string: the worst I have ever had. The fried clams were no improvement. I have eaten there several times in the past, but their standards seem to have sunk to a very low level. Never again.
First visit; several good points more below expectations It’s still cool and damp but the comfort level needs upgrading with heat in the dining area Good food comments for spicy stuffies, fried clams and calamari. Not so good for warm not hot fries, cool onion rings and soupy oyster rockerfellas. Like to try some other items when weather warms
