There’s always a line, but that alone tells you you’re in for a treat. If you’re patient, it’s worth the wait. We stopped in for breakfast, and as always, it did not disappoint. Pancakes for my 10-year-old, a Philly Steak omelette for me, and Bennie’s Avocado for my husband. Generous portions, very reasonable prices, and service that feels like home.
The lady who runs it (so sorry I didn’t catch her name) is incredible! She does it all! Hostess, waitress, manager, she works the room effortlessly. My husband was in awe just watching her work her magic. Truly a gem of a place that keeps us coming back.

The food at Ernie’s was decent, but the service was terrible. Our server was rude from the start, had no welcoming attitude, and even spilled a drink on my girlfriend without much of an apology. It felt like she didn’t want to be there, and honestly, she should probably consider a career change because customer service is clearly not her strength. Wouldn’t recommend if you value a pleasant dining experience.

Rude Service, Dirty Silverware, and No Manager Support at Ernie’s
Review: Worst breakfast ever at Ernie’s on Block Island. Server spilled a drink on me, mocked my words, and had an attitude when I asked for clean plastic silverware. Same rudeness when my son asked for hot sauce. No manager came over, and the only polite person was a boy about 8–10 clearing tables. Completely unacceptable.

Unfortunately this is a cash only establishment, the problem is that there is no notice to this fact before sitting down and reading the menu, so the hostess took our name (no mention of the cash only policy) we waited 20 minutes to get a seat, which is fine, we sat down and in the bottom of the menu it discretely states cash only, then we were told that their ATM was down. I mentioned to the women, I belive was a manager that it would be helpful if they had a sign at the front to let customers know that it was cash only to avoid wasting people's time waiting, she looked at me surprised and said it sails it on the menu, she completely missed the point, however there is a nice spot across the street that accepts cards, (Lunch Bucket) and the also serve breakfast and the prices are actually less than the cash only

Old school greasy spoon, felt like a family run operation. Got corned beef hash with poached eggs and sourdough toast, everyone in my group got different things, everyone was satisfied, definitely go again.

Ernie’s is one of those no-frills breakfast joints that’s clearly earned its place in the hearts of both locals and early-rising visitors. It’s not trying to be trendy, it’s not overthinking things — and that’s exactly what makes it work.
You walk in and you know right away: this is a spot that’s been around long enough to know breakfast. Friendly staff, a cozy diner-style setup, and food that shows up hot and just the way you ordered it. By the time we were heading out, there was a solid crowd waiting for tables — always a good sign when the locals are willing to wait.
I got exactly what I was in the mood for — nothing fancy, just satisfying, well-cooked breakfast classics. The kind of place where eggs are eggs, coffee is coffee, and everything feels just a little better because you’re on Block Island.
If you’re looking for modern twists and avocado toast with edible flowers, this isn’t it. But if you want a solid, satisfying breakfast in a place that feels like part of the island’s rhythm — Ernie’s is the spot.

Great pancakes but should have natural butter and real Maple syrup, even if there is an extra charge.
Great place for all of your breakfast and lunch needs, between the great service and food, you can't go wrong.
Worst service
Bad attitude on waitress
