Great view, below average food, you have to order from the bar then it gets delivered. Not at all worth it. Order was messed up too.

The food was terrible. Go somewhere else or cook at home. I guarantee it will be better

OMG Absolutely the worst food I ever had.Nothing was even edible except the fries, this must be the reason why they make you pay first. The brisket was like a piece of leather smothered in BBS the chicken platter I have no words for and the burger was a dry flavorless cheap frozen patty . Nobody had more than one bite. Don’t be fooled by the location . Food not fit for a dog I have a hard time believing any of the positive reviews.

Great view of the coastline from above. Got a beer and mussels with chorizo, which I thought was an odd mix but was a good and well portion for 1-3 people. Overall it's worth a trip, arrive before 3pm rush and order your drinks and meal at the back bar counter.

An unparalleled view from the deck, along with a friendly atmosphere. Great food with fresh ingredients, well made cocktails and reasonably priced. Organized and efficient service. Consistently a good experience going back a few years

Don't waste your time or money! The staff had hideous attitude and everything you tried to order they didn't have... yuck!

We went to the restaurant before dinner and after lunch to avoid the crowds. We were seated outside, there were numerous empty tables. After waiting for more than 20 minutes, no servers came to our table to ask for our drinks or food order. Again, this was a very quiet time, we finally left after realizing the staff wasn't coming.

Rip off. Service can lack because it’s an island and your choices are limited. You have to serve yourself. Bar is a joke- $50 pitcher filled with ice. “That’s how they come” he/she said- unsure if it was a man or a woman. Nothing against the trans community just don’t want to assume. Put your drinks in your pockets before you come and don’t tip bartender.

Great location, food was decent but we were not expecting the self-service experience of waiting in a 10-minute line to order food and drinks from the bartender to be delivered to our table. Finishing our drinks before our lunch was finished, I went to see if there was a separate line to get a refill on our drinks, same long line for drinks as well, waited for a few minutes then gave up. Least they could do is serve water to the tables. If they're trying to save money on waitstaff, they should think about QR codes on the tables connected to an app. I would consider a different place for lunch unless there's no line which you won't know until your seated.

So before you decide to go just know that there is no wait staff and you have to order your food at the bar. And then they bring it over. Also all on This Island everyone accepts cash except for this establishment no cash just card. The food was less than stellar the seafood fritters had no Seafood in it the grilled cheese was cold, the onion rings are definitely not the onion rings that were pictured. They definitely staged their pictures online cuz what I got and what I saw were two different things. And my brisket barbecue sandwich came out cold. It's pretty sad when the only thing good that you ordered was the sliced watermelon. We will not be coming back. Also if you wanted appetizers first forget it they bring everything out at once.

This was our first time in Block Island so we were trying out most of the restaurants. The Surf crossed our radar because of its boho atmosphere and variety of foods.

Pros:
I will start off reviewing the food as that was the highlight of our visit there. I had the salmon BLT which was delicious, salmon as cooked perfected and the ciabatta bread was fresh. My partner had the ahi tuna poke bowl which was also fresh, very light on the ahi tuna, but good enough to hold her over for lunch.

Cons:
The service was terrible. First day we went here, we were guided to our table by the host who was pleasant, she told us that when we were ready to order, to order with the bar which as fine. When I went to order, the bartenders looked completed unhappy to be there, inattentive, and unappreciative for the tip that I gave for the poor service. I don’t expect a thank you, but anything would’ve been better than the stone cold face and half eye contact I got, felt like they couldn’t be bothered.
Another thing, the bussers for both times of our visit, all four of them were standing near the bar talking to each other not being attentive to any of the tables nor offering menus or anything. As a fellow restaurant service employee, I understand when times are slow, however they need to be somewhere other than hanging out in front of the people dining.
Now, our second visit was even less pleasant. We arrived at The Surf at 10:30am, their breakfast service ends at 11am. We walked in as there was no host, so we went and sat in the back by the bar. The bussers were congregating by the bar, I had to ask them for menus and I asked them how I can order as there is no bartender. The boy said, oh she should be back soon, so we waited 10 minutes until she arrived. Just for her to inform us that if we want breakfast we are to order from the inside bar. We walked and sat at the bar and asked for menus and were informed that they are no longer serving breakfast at 10:50am. This wouldn’t have been a problem, however that’s the only reason we sat to eat there.

I understand that they may have first time employees and younger staff. But the lack of management to keep their employees on task was very apparent and for the price you pay for their food, I would expect better.

Delicious food and beautiful views!! We had the smoked chicken salad sandwich and the ahi tuna poke bowl, both very good and loved watching the ocean right in front of us.

The view is great. Food was just ok for the price they charge and the food ordering system was to disorganized. Most staff seemed miserable.
