Great little joint in Newport. Went during the off season which made the experience much more relaxed. Great drinks. The rigatoni is very good.
Food was great. Oysters, clam chowder and burgers were great. Service was mediocre. Made a reservation with a birthday and they forgot. Then offered us a dessert and charged us.
We had reservations in the back room (the old formal dining room). Sat next to window - but cold air coming thru the window made things terribly uncomfortable - had to put on our Canada goose coats to stay warm. We requested a move to the front tavern room - which we were graciously accommodated. Service and food in the tavern was excellent. We've been going to the BP for more than forty years - one of our favors in Newport. We especially like the ambience of the tavern room. Mussels and chowder are the best. But please forego the back room in winter - unless you like attic weather.
Great night out. Food was delicious, our server seemed to anticipate everything and was great. Would recommend this place for a good night out.
Great casual Food. Yummy! We were all happy after a chilly day walking around. Cozy place.
We heard good things about The Black Pearl and we were not disappointed! Comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. Our server Jessica T was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave us great service. Food was delicious. We had the clam chowder which was great crab cakes were good and everyone enjoyed the tavern burgers. Our drinks were good too. We enjoyed our visit.
It was very disappointing compared to previous years. While the front area was festive, we were seated by ourselves in the back. The service was subpar. Our food came out before our chowder, our drink order was wrong, and the waitress dropped dishes on my pocket book (placed under the table). Honestly, I should have asked to speak to the manager about our experience.
This was my first time back in 43 years. I heard the chef that was there back then retired a number of years ago. His replacement had not missed a beat. We had a great time
Drinks were not good. Ordered martinis and they weren't shaken with enough ice. Clam chowder tasted very fish. Paid 58$ for steak frites and tasted just meh. Brought out wrong salad. Just overall not a good experience. Would not return.
Best white clam chowder in New England. The ambiance is so seaport I expected Long John Silver to walk in at any moment.

Living locally we forget about the Newport old standbys. Atmosphere, service and food were great. I had the chowder, my husband the cod casserole. Chowder is a classic and the cod was very good.
Cozy place with great service, delicious martinis and food. Great place for a group or couple.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was well-prepared and flavorful, the atmosphere was comfortable and inviting and our waitress was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable throughout the meal. That said, the pricing felt high for what was offered. I've had equal or better meals in the area for significantly less, so the value didn't quite align with the cost. Still, the quality of service and ambiance made for a pleasant visit. The best part for me was the bourbon bread pudding, best I've ever had since not your traditional bread pudding.
Our server, Richard, was very attentive and accommodating. My only disappointment was that the brunch menu ended at 1:00 and I was craving the eggs Benedict.
We had dinner at the Black Pearl. The clam chowder was tasty and the hamburger was good. The room fir dining was crowded and noisy. The service was average.
