Had dinner at Jo's and it was a mixed bag. The bread was good but the Potato Cakes were a mess - kind of like fried mashed potato balls with maybe something in them. The Lobster Roll was excellent (the highlight of the meal), but the Scallops were meh - the scallops themselves were good but the gnocchi were bland and there was little flavor otherwise. We got a couple of desserts but honestly they were so forgettable I can not say anything specific about them, which lines up with the rest of the meal. The service was fine if not exceptional and the place is cute. That said, it was very expensive for mid-level food, most of which was unmemorable. Would not go back and cannot recommend it - there are a number of better places in Newport.

A home run. My wife and I ate at the bar and the bartender was outstanding. We had a question regarding the use of garlic in a certain dish and although she was pretty certain she went to the kitchen to confirm. Service was wonderful as was the food and ambiance.

Ate here on the evening prior to a marathon and it was the perfect choice! Fast and polite service- variety of good menu choices; I had grilled chicken sandwich and fries and both were delicious! My husband had fish and chips - fish was light and crisp and tasty; and of course I appreciated the warm dinner rolls!

We ate here our first night in Newport, it was walking distance to our place too. Very nice interior and we arrived earlier enough without a reservation. The guests at the next table recommended the fish &chips as their favorite, a recipe from a closed restaurant that was famous for their fish & chips and they only came here cause they’d heard they had the recipe. So we went full seafood meal, clam crowder and the fish & chips, all said the meal was okay. Odd that they bring you the hot bread in a paper bag, assume to keep it warm.I thought the clam chowder was too creamy and large shallow dish served in made it cold pretty quick. The fish was hot and tasty but don’t agree it was the best I ever had, and the fries soaked up too much oil and were soggy. We heard our sever tell other tables the soup of the day , she failed to let us know which was my husband’s favorite and he would have preferred it over the chowder. We heard the host tell the table near us that he needed the table for a 7 pm reservation, they had just sat down, I found that rude. All said it was okay, and it was getting busier as we had our meal so it must be popular for local dining but if we go back to Newport not sure we’d go back here.

First time dining here food, service and atmosphere was great. Had the pan seared cod was both delicious and filling. Wife had the skirt stake with the were salad was equally delicious. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal.

I would definitely recommend Jo's. The server and kitchen paid very close attention to my wife's food allergies, and made her a special meal based on what was available. I had the steak frites which was great, and came with a fantastic sauce. I would highly recommend this restaurant.Dietary restrictions: They have a "blue plate" system so that people with food allergies get special attention in their kitchen and the server was very knowledgeable about what my wife could and couldn't eat, and also made recommendations to suite my wife's needs.

We were seated in the very back room next to a window leaking g water on a rainy windy evening. We were the only ones in the room while other tables were available in the dining room. Our server was some what short with us moving us along to order and we were her only table! For a 35$ entry I would like to take my time. Ambiance left a lot to be desired and service was mediocre.

I can’t understand these reviews. This restaurant wants premium money for mediocre food. I can’t understand these reviews.

This is our go to spot when in RI. We live this restaurant - have been coming since they opened. Celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday there ( student at Salve). Food was delicious and portions huge! Bonus point for being safe for peanut and tree nut allergies- even some desserts! Highly recommend the olive oil cake with fruits. We will be back again and again!

The room we sat in was freezing and drafty until the heat came on and then you baked and then the heat went off and you froze and then the heat came back on, and you baked. Sunday through Thursday a price fix menu was offered but since it was Presidents' Day, a Monday, you couldn't have the price fixed menu. That literally makes no sense to me. If I was in the area in the spring or summer, I might consider it but with so many other restaurants in Newport Rhode Island I'd try something new.

We sat upstairs with the heat blowing so hot then if would go off and you freeze. Our server was very nice. The food definitely below par. The duck and lobster quesadillas were awful. The duck was fatty and grizzly. Sausage orchetti was undercooked and crunchy. We asked for hot and crispy fries and they were burnt. And to top it off we asked for 2 desserts to go and they were not available. Not overly impressed
