It’s a simple equation: delicious & innovative dishes in a cool atmosphere with lovely servers who are fun & properly attentive. That’s what you’ll find here. Music at a very nice volume not prohibitive to enjoying your own company. We loved it & had a delightful dinner during our brief stay in Newport. If we had had time for another dinner, we would’ve come back for more menu items. Keep up the great stuff!

Try the Bolognese. It's amazing. The indoor area was loud but still enjoyed the overall experience.

At Malt, one encounters not merely a steak accompanied by frites, but rather a transcendent manifestation of bovine succulence colliding with tuberous crispness in a dialectical interplay of textures and essences. The steak, simultaneously robust in its charred exterior and yielding in its sanguine interior, performs a paradoxical symphony of carnivorous indulgence, wherein each morsel compels the diner to reflect upon the very philosophy of cookery itself.
The frites, those slender golden batons of fried tuber, shimmer with an almost Platonic ideal of crispness, their interiors whispering of agrarian origins while their exteriors crackle in the mouth like edible architecture. When united with the accompanying sauce—an unctuous elixir of savory profundity—the ensemble transcends the mere act of dining and approaches the realm of experiential metaphysics.
To call this simply “steak frites” would be an injustice; at Malt, it is a culinary sonnet disguised as sustenance, a dish that insists upon being contemplated as much as consumed.

Food was amazing, service was even better! Bryan took great care of our group. Easy to make reservation and they had the table ready for us when we got there.

Irish pub interior, there is a grass patio outback along with table and counter height and bar seating.
I highly recommend the burgers - great flavors even though It wasn't cooked to what we ordered (ordered medium and came out medium rare). Homemade buns.
The parking is easy, with pull in spots right in front of the restaurant and parallel parking around as well. Not being familiar with the area, I was surprised to see the homeless on nearly every corner.

Walked in —sat at sticky table by some high school host. Asked to change—new table sticky with chairs that could fall apart—walk out.
Not clean=not worth staying! Dine elsewhere probably.

It was so good we had dinner here two nights in a row. The staff was friendly, attentive, and personable. The drinks were unparalleled and the food was pretty dang good too. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Its a decent little restaurant in downtown Newport. Its has a greaty comfy cozy feel to it. The apperizers were delicous. As an entree I got the steak frites. They could have been a bit more seasoned. The server also seemed annoyed she had to serve me. Other than that it was a good place

The clam chowder is one of the best I had. Service is great. The bacalao was ok. I think that dish would be better with real salted cod and not fresh cod. My wife's ravioli was a little tough , so she left half of it. House wine was good. I will still give it a 5 stars for the good service and the chowder

Our experience at malt began with the lovely Grace, the hostess. It was busy, and we had no reservation, but she told us she could squeeze us in. We had a choice of tables, one immediately, and (the one we ended up at) one in 5 minutes, which she helped clear and clean for us. As we waited we met Teddy at the bar, not sure whether his wit, or drinks were quicker. Then luckily we had Brian as our server, co-waiting with Leanne. Their knowledge of the menu, Newport generally, and friendly banter was something to behold. The owners we learned are from Dublin, and the photography around the restaurant were produced by Chelynn (a trained photographer). The food is delicious. We were told that they never completely revamp their menu, and only try new dishes, and keep what people like. If you’re lucky, on St. Patrick’s day/parade day (I guess the parade is the 15th this year) you might finagle a Jell-O shot or 5 from the staff, compliments of Tom. Really can’t say enough good things about this place, I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

The server demanded us for a tip on our way out. Terrible experience. We didn’t leave a tip because the food wasn’t the best. It was very awkward - we were stopped on the way out and the server asked if there was something wrong with this pointing to the bill and said tip for server is 20%. We were on a hurry so i left a tip of $10 but that was just plain rude. We were already stressed since they don’t accept phone tap pay and had to manually add our card numbers which the waiter made us say it out loud. Very bad experience. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
