Cozy restaurant serving up delicious Asian fusion (Japanese meets Italian and American). Mocktails were delicious and Sam is a great host!

Love this place. Total hidden gem, but hiding in plain sight! The chicken wings and dumplings are so tasty. The service is great, and the food comes out quick. I love how you get to choose your food with a stamp.

It's BYOB, so don't forget to bring a bottle of something. Vodka in their watermelon yuzu lemonade is incredible!

If they have the Japanese Nutella pancakes, don't skip them! So delicious I had to eat the whole thing

Really enjoyed the Korean Chicken Wings. Very crispy and had lots of flavor and a sweet flavor as well. I could have had them even spicier personally. “Spaghetti” and Meatballs were a nice fusion dish and I enjoyed them with udon noodles. I would recommend asking to get it with a runny yolk as I think that would make it even better.

A comment to the staff for improvement. While the stamp to order makes for a fun change, it isn’t clear how to order appetizers to get them ahead of time. I ordered wings and then a main dish to share, but they came out at the same time. Our noodles got cold while we ate our wings because the wings were a finger kind of dish. Maybe it was miscommunication thinking we wanted the wings as a main dish though.

I wanted to like this place so bad. The idea is cute but for the way the menu is constructed and presented, it's pitched as a tapas style restaurant without the tapas prices. Which is fine if the food is good, which to me it was not... a previous review said the pulled pork dumplings changed their life, however I found the meat inside dry and unflavored. One of my dumplings was soaking wet inside and I had to let the water drain out before I could eat it. My brussel sprouts were burned beyond being edible, and the sauce on the wings left very much to be desired. I'm glad I tried this place just so my curiosity has been sufficed, however this place needs a major menu overhaul.

My family and I were very intrigued by the concept of fusion food this place offered so we decided to try it out. Great atmosphere and selection of menu items. Their appetizers/tapas are life- changing!!! The only downside would be the forgetfulness of the server, we had to ask for water multiple times. Also, the steak entree was lacking seasoning and hard to chew. Other than that, we had a good experience!

My family tried Mr. R for dinner. We walked in around 7:15pm on a Thursday to a completely empty restaurant. Staff were behind the counter and greeted us. After being seated the process for ordering was explained to us. We made our selections and the waitress returned to collect or our menu/order ticket. We had a couple questions on the mocktails, but before we could get them out she turned and walked away. We let it go thinking she would pass by again, but that didn’t happen. One of the things that wasn’t explained to us was that they would bring out everything we ordered at once. So our five plates emerged within minutes of each other. We had pork dumplings, ham croquettes, chicken wings, fried shrimp with wasabi aioli and pork ribs. None of the items had much taste other than the sauce they came with. The wasabi aioli was just dollop of mayonnaise with a hint of wasabi and the cheese sauce that came with the wings looked like it had been sitting under a warming lamp. The wings were over sauced and the ribs extremely over sauced. The ribs were cold and we sent them back. I had to raise my hand to get the waitress attention because she hadn’t returned. Admittedly she did ask how everything was, but it happened as she was delivering the food and there wasn’t an opportunity to have sampled anything. About five minutes after the discussion around replacing the ribs with a fresh order, she returned to let us know she was going to ask the kitchen for a new order. At that point we asked for them to cancel the order and give us the check. We were only at the restaurant about 45 minutes total. It was an unfortunate experience. The menu is creative and fun, the facility is very nice, but the execution is broken. The restaurant scene in Newport is too competitive to not perform better, especially for a place that not downtown and wouldn’t normally benefit from foot traffic. I’m glad we tried it. I had high hopes, but unfortunately will not be back.

Best meal in newport! Get the salmon bowl with crispy rice and edamame it's DELICIOUS, salmon is cooked to perfection. It's a fun stamp menu as well! We got the pulled pork dumplings and the Chinese broccoli and some other apps. Absolutely delish! Do not pass this place up! My only complaint is the chairs outside are uncomfortable!

After attending a local festival, my companions and I couldn’t decide what we wanted to eat, but thanks to Google we found Mr.R, which offers a fusion of Asian, Italian, and American foods.

Upon entering, you get a fusion vibe of retro diner and hipster chic. We were immediately greeted and seated by a member of the staff. We were given one menu to share and a small red stamp for stamping the items that we wanted. I did enjoy the stamping process.

The food came out much quicker than I anticipated and after the first plate arrived, new dishes were arriving every 3-5 minutes.

The dumplings arrived first. They were tender and flavorful and had just the right amount of chili oil. My only wish was that they provided an even number of dumplings so they could be shared evenly. The bok choy was delicious and had a hint of sweetness that paired well with the salty, crispy Asian wings.

Our server was friendly, and the staff thanked us for coming and said goodbye as we left.

If I’m ever in the area again I’d like to eat here again since I imagine that the menu changes regularly.

Parking: Free street parking, but some areas have a two-hour parking limit during peak times.

The 5 star reviews ï promise you are a lie! The food had NO taste whatsoever, despite waiting a lifetime for it, and the price.. You’d think from the LOOKS of the establishment and the menu, that it would be professional chef quality…but it’s absolutely DUMPSTER quality.

Just a great small, casual, and wonderfully surprising place. A right sized menu that won't overwhelm you but enough for you to come back for more.

Wow. I rarely leave a review but this was such an incredible experience I felt compelled. We had a large party with minimal expectations and we were blown away. Praying that they keep the tuna tartare special on the menu because we couldn’t stop ordering it! Staff was very friendly, atmosphere was amazing, and the food was unbeatable. Very fair prices and would recommend to all. Super creative dishes, There’s something for everyone!
