The Wyndham Newport Onshore USED to be a GREAT place to stay., but now, RENTER BEWARE! First, the good points: - The location is perfect - right downtown and close to everything but also on the harbor with excellent views of the boats, bridge, etc. - The suits are spacious, the beds comfortable, the furniture is modern and pretty new. The kitchen facilities are adequate and well-stocked with dishes, utensils and glassware. - The suites that have cover porches overlooking the harbor (Eastwind, Southwind and Westwind buildings) are great. The porches are wonderful places to sit and watch the world go by. - The outdoor pool area is nice. The indoor pool is, well, an indoor pool - adequate but nothing special. The not-so-good points: - Parking sucks. You get one space assigned for your stay and some of the spaces can be difficult to get in and out of. If you have guests that need a parking space for a day or overnight, it can be hard to get one, especially on weekends during the summer - Noise from nearby bars can be tough if you're staying in the Northwind building. It's especially bad on weekends but generally dies down after 1am or so. - the one bedroom units on the top floor are small, dark and do not have covered porches. Now for the REALLY BAD stuff: My family has been renting stays at this resort for almost 20 years. We would rent weeks directly from owners, through third party websites such as Redweek or from Newport vacation rental agencies. We also booked stays directly through Wyndham. We NEVER had a problem with any bookings until this year (2023). In May, we booked four nights through an online third party site. The DAY BEFORE our arrival, I got a phone call from the manager at the resort telling me that they were overbooked and that they didn't have a suite for us. Instead, they offered us a room at the Wyndham Inn on the Harbor or at the Wyndham Long Wharf. Although these are nice properties, they are NOT equivalent in terms of amenities and location. As such, we were not happy with the switch, especially when I was informed that there would not be any reduction in the fee we had paid. We refused the offer and canceled the reservation and received a full refund. We booked another stay this August with a gentleman who was an OWNER of the week. The same thing happened again. The OWNER was contacted the DAY BEFORE our scheduled arrival and was told the same thing - overbooked, can stay at the other hotels instead, so sorry, etc.. Needless to say, the owner was pissed as were we when we were informed about the situation. Once again, our vacation which we had been looking forward to for over a month was destroyed by the apparent incompetence of the resort management. And once again, we canceled, although this time we were not able to get all of our money back due to credit card fees and broker fees. SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE MANAGEMENT. As I said, nothing like this had ever happened to us prior to 2023. If you look at other online reviews, you'll see that the same thing has happened to other people, and it all began in 2023. I just cannot understand why this is happening and what sort of misguided thinking is behind it. Calling renters the DAY BEFORE they are due to arrive and telling them that they don't have a place to stay is simply unacceptable. Offering them rooms at lesser facilities with fewer amenities and not offering a partial refund is not acceptable. We're fortunate that we are within driving distance of the place so we didn't have to cancel plane tickets as some others might have had to do. Imagine booking your vacation week at Newport Onshore, taking vacation time from your work, arranging a flight and transportation to get there and maybe purchasing tour tickets in advance only to find out the DAY BEFORE you’re supposed to check in that you do not actually have a suite in the resort. That just isn’t right. Although we absolutely love the place, I'm not sure we're ever going to try to book there again due to these issues. I would recommend that

Please do not book here. This hotel blatantly does not care about their customers. We booked here months ago for a joint birthday vacation. We paid in full. We took time off. We confirmed 2 weeks before. Suddenly, The DAY before we are set to leave, we receive a strange phone call from a hotel in JAMESTOWN informing us we had been bumped from the Wyndham in Newport to a totally different hotel out of town! The original Wyndham we had booked never even notified us. Nor did the parent/management company. When I called to get an explanation, there wasn't one. They "overbooked"? Not taking any responsibility. No compensation. Barely an apology. We not only planned the trip way in advance, we also took precious work TIME off. The ONLY blessing is that the hotel in Jamestown was kind enough to let us know we had been rebooked at their hotel and they wanted to give us a head's up (they didn't have to do that). If we had driven all the way there, we would probably have been stuck staying with the new hotel out of town (where we would have had to change rooms mid-trip!!) and it would have ruined our trip. Thanks to a lovely lady at the Wyndham in Jamestown, we are now getting a full refund and will try again somewhere new (but only after bitter disappointment and wasted time off). I apologize if this review sounds entitled, but when you plan carefully, save up, take time off, and call to confirm a week before; this kind of news comes as a blow.

The excitement of the first day in Newport was quickly shattered by the news that the outdoor pool would be closed until further notice. Our yearly trip to this location, is usually a good one. But the lack of information about this issue previous to our arrival, paired with the undeniable fact that they are in no rush to fix the issue. I’ve been here for four days now and I’ve seen the pool guys here for one one of them. Management did provide a bouncy house for one day, in an attempt to make this a little better. But on the second day, we asked them to blow it up again so the kids could use it and we were told, “it was for one day only”. On the third day, we still see the pool roped off and the now the only grassy area for the kids to play has this deflated bouncy house draped across yard. This whole trip that we have been waited for all year, has left a terrible impression of this facility and its management. I wish just once they would picture themselves being here on their family’s vacation, how would they feel about their handling of these issues. Shameful

The staff is excellent and was very responsive to all our needs. The location is excellent. Everything is nearby and easy to walk to. Great restaurants and shops. Beautiful view from the condo. Would definitely come here again.

The Club Wyndham Newport Onshore has become one of our favorite resorts in Newport. The units are very well maintained. Staff is very helpful. The location is perfect for walking to restaurants and shops. We love to stay at the Onshore.

We stayed in a newer/newly renovated 2 bedroom 2 bath unit March 3-10, 2023 with a great view of Newport Harbor. Unit was large, quiet, well stocked, very clean, and everything was in good working order. The only thing was that the lighting in the kitchen was poor. The kitchen needs better lighting and when I mentioned this to the front desk staff they readily agreed, saying they get that feedback all the time. Other than that everything was great! And just a note for all travelers wherever you stay...please be sure to leave a tip for the cleaning staff when you leave if you feel the room met your cleanliness standards. We always do.

Make reservations way in advance of your arrival for any and all meals. Be prepared if it is vacation week for schools because the pool will be very busy. If it is winter weekend make plans in advance fo everything.

Our apartment was very clean, comfortable and exactly what we wanted! I highly recommend this complex for anyone who wishes to stay in an apartment in Newport. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would definately stay there again!

great place to stay in Newport. The winter rates were perfect for us. Security was a nice addition. Stayed for our anniversary and they provided us with wine and chocolate blueberries. Check in was easy and they provide a set parking space.

Very large two-bedroom suite with a lounge area as well as a dining area. Front and back balconies were nice to have. Bonus was a covered, assigned parking spot for our car. Easy walking to anything along Newport's harbor area. Front desk staff was very nice.

My favorite resort ever. Location!!! Two balconies. Center of Newport. This resort is extremely difficult to get with points so if you have to take a split week (move between rooms)….DO IT. We “threw” our things into our suitcases. Went to the beach. They moved everything. Rooms were beautiful. Clean. Recently updated.

Location was outstanding. Staff was good, patient, and helpful. Our only surprise… We’d made reservations thru Club Wyndham for a 9 day stay sound 10 months before ckin. Upon cking in… we were told that we’d be required to change rooms after our first night due to a “fixed week” owners reservation coming in the day after our first of 9 nights. It was a disappointing inconvenience that they (could have??) told me about in advance. I will attempt to obtain a refund of points spent for our first night, as an accommodation.

I always go to Newport with my family every year. I’ve been going since I was a little girl. We have a timeshare so that’s why we do go every year. This place is basically my second home. It’s my favorite ever. There is a inside salt water pool, and a outside salt water pool. There is an ice and water machine, a gym and a nice clean bathroom. There’s also a sauna. It is very clean. There are 3-4 grills and items to use to cook. The service there is the best. The employees make it an amazing stay. They check up on you, see if you need anything, and will bring you the stuff and leave it outside of you’re door. There are a lot of restaurants down the street and nice cute shops and stores to shop at. There are arcades, and a marina. Mostly to get to these places, you walk. To get food for the condos, you would go to a grocery store as so. We see close friends there every year and we always hangout with them. It’s fun because people we know go and we just have a blast, we make food with them and just talk and talk and dance and more. Down by the pool you can also play music and the views to the boats are the best. The sunsets some nights are so cool to look at. Personally, I definitely recommend more people to visit.

The unit we had had two balconies both overlooking the harbor. At night we had lovely sunsets and a view of the sailboats coming in at night. The only concern is their internet connection which by far was the worst I have ever seen.

We had an excellent week in April at Wyndham Newport Onshore. I own a timeshare week there. The staff are very friendly and check in and check out was very easy. I love that you can text them with any questions or supplies needed and they respond immediately. It was great when we couldn’t figure out how to turn the electric fireplace on. They responded right away and we got it going. We had a beautiful updated two bedroom two bath unit in the Westwind building which is right on the water with a beautiful view with great sunsets. There were 3 balconies. The unit was very clean with a full kitchen and washer and dryer. The beds and sofa bed were all comfortable. My sister loved the indoor salt water pool. There’s free WiFi for 4 devices and we had no connection issues. The location is excellent for sightseeing and restaurants and we walked to most places. We were allowed 2 parking spaces and because it was off season we could park a third car in the marina parking lot for free which was perfect for us. There is no maid service but they will deliver requested items and leave them outside your door. I highly recommend this resort as a home base for a wonderful week in Newport.
