Our server Natasha was one of the best servers we've ever had. She made our anniversary dinner so special! The food was delicious and we had a gorgeous seat by the window to enjoy the sunset. A little chilly!!
Perfect restaurant to celebrate special occasions. Was even able to dock our boat right at the restaurant!
Great jazz sound track enhanced our experience at the new fine dining restaurant in the re-done resort on Goat Island. 1639 (named for when Newport was founded) has beautiful views of boats passing on the harbor and of the Point neighborhood's historic houses. It's pricy, but you're paying for the views as well as the very good food. We dined indoors as the outdoor part was taken over by a private party, and enjoyed a beets and herb salad, the smoked duck entree and the striped bass entree. and the fresh fruit pannacotta (which we would have enjoyed more if it wasn't tiny and priced at $18). There's another eatery called the Torpedo Bar and Lounge on the other side of the resort which faces the bridge and bay on the other side, is more casual, and slightly less expensive. 1639 seems to just be getting geared up, as it was only open Friday and Saturday when we were there. The renovation of the hotel has resulted in fun updated entertainment spaces.
Really enjoyed the 1639. The food was excelllent and also had a great view. It was a modern looks inside. Would definitely go back.
Food was good. The price was expensive for the options available on a buffett lunch. Service was subpar.
The team was lovely and helped make our family celebration very special. The buffet was great! Thank you!
We had Easter brunch here and it was absolutely outstanding. Everything was both beautiful and delicious. I'd definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting from out of town.
Loved lounging around the firepit, with stunning view of Narragansett Bay and Newport Bridge. Sunday lunch hour in September was quiet and not crowded. Service and food was ok.
Prosecco La Marca $14
Clam chowder 13 - bland.
Crispy cod sandwich $26 scallion tartar, cheddar cheese in ciabatta, with fries. Deep fried cod was fresh inside, but greasy on the outside. Tartar sauce was bland with no kick. Ciabatta and herb fries were quite good.
Crispy chicken wings $21 Fresno, sweet chili glaze. Nice chili flavor with mild heat, but chicken meat was too tough and rubbery..
Parking: Self park $9 per hour
Valet $30

Food was great as was the service. However, there was a limited selection of wine options and no cocktail menu. In addition, it would be nice to have complimentary bread or crackers at the start of our dining experience.
Food was incredible. Service was meh. My wine glass came over with wine all over the bottom so I had to clean it myself. Then our waiter did not come back over to get us more drinks until we flagged down another waiter. He was nowhere to be found the majority of our meal

We won't go Back We've been coming here through all its iterations, starting with Scarletta, then Sail Fish, and now 1639. I was looking forward to this newest version because the location is great. But the place had low energy, foreign service that was unfamiliar with the menu, blah food, no wine menu, and overall mediocre experience. We won't go back. Their prices are on the extreme upper level, but unwarranted as the food was barely okay. I don't recommend.
Very pretty restaurant and hotel all refurbished but food was horrible. Really disappointed as service was equally terrible. Manager came over to help and the he disappeared also. They should be able to retain plenty of summer help given the location. Recommend they bring in exchange students like other places.
Food was decent, but pricey. Ambiance was nice, but we had a great table. The rest of the restaurant was just okay Beautiful string lights outside but they weren't lit...would have been so nice if they were. Service was not good! Pleasant server but painfully slow. Only came around once for drink refills. Got our food after a long wait and didn't see the waiter again. Would not necessarily go back
We are Newport residents since NOV 2022. We tried dining here 2 yrs ago, & we're not pleased with the menu or service at the time. Now since the hotel/restaurant is under new management, we wanted to try it again. Our waiter was fantastic....but the $72 medallion size filet with a tiny onion was totally unacceptable!!! And the whole menu needs improvement to include more choices. Scallops, shrimp, pork, & a better house salad. We were quite surprised that the renovation and the great location on Goat Island did not improve overall. Thank you & hoping improvements will happen in the near future. We love the location & ambience.
The food was bland, too small of portion, and when asked to heat up the host came back and said they wouldn't. The waiters never checked in with us, service was extremely slow, and we had to plead for water.
