Our hostess, Natasha was friendly, attentive and gave us great food and drink recommendations. She was sensitive to our guest with food allergies and checked for each dish what she could eat safely. Special cocktails were unique and delicious. Food was amazing! Thank you for the ambiance, attentiveness and a great meal.

Absolutely terrible. This is the type of expensive restaurant where the chef is no good and tries to cover up his flaws by overdoing everything. First, the clam chowder was ridiculous. It had two clams in it and absolutely no taste of clams - it was really a corn chowder with two clams. Next, we had the halibut, which was floating in a broth with way too much salt. It was inedible. Our lips were throbbing from the salt. The cacio e pepe pasta and the lobster pasta were overcooked and over salted as well. When we told the waitress and manager, all they said was we are sorry we did not meet your expectations. They did not write off the fish even though it was basically untouched. They merely offered one free dessert, but by that time, we were not interested in more bad food. Notably, the restaurant was empty (only 5 tables taken) on a saturday night where Newport was fully booked. Finally, the decor is awful. The restaurant looks like a cafeteria, rather than a fancy restaurant, but the pricing is expensive. There is absolutely no ambiance at all.

Everything about our brunch was lovely, but what made it exceptional was our server. She was one of the best we've ever had. Attentive, kind, and she made us feel special and welcomed.

We went to 1639 for an anniversary dinner and could not have been happier. Food was delicious, ambience was perfect, and Natasha was one of the best servers we have ever had at any restaurant (genuinely...super knowledgeable of all the dishes, great personality). They also have a bar on the deck which was perfect for after dinner drinks. Whole evening was great but especially want to thank Natasha for a phenomenal experience.

Kaylia (spelling?) was a great server and did a fantastic job. Food was great. We had duck and rack of lamb. Apps and drinks were good. The staff made a small error with our order but corrected it immediately. They even recognized our reason for celebrating and made it a very special night. Place is not clearly marked and can easily be missed. Think it was a hidden gem in the resort.

The atmosphere is beautiful. My girlfriends and I went out for drinks and apps- our waitress was a bit rude. She had us waiting for her to pick up the check for a half hour! Once she did pick up the check- we waited another 20 minutes... and it was slow. We actually had to tap another busser/ hostess for her attention. The food is overpriced. My gf paid $24 for a cocktail where there was no alcohol. I do not recommend.

Very negative experience. Service was rather poor. It took 25 minutes for drinks to arrive. Food arrived over an hour after we were seated. This is in the context of a half empty restaurant. Our server rarely checked on us. The food was sub-par. Steak was not cooked to order. And the bill was extravagant (and included a $150 charge for the steak special, the price of which was not disclosed during the process). Management was unresponsive to our complaints and requests for assistance. This was a truly unfortunate dining experience. Recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

A hidden gem to escape the overpopulated scene of Newport. Stunning ocean views, impeccable service and the food was amazing. We got the 1/2 dozen oysters, grilled octopus, the Cacio e Pepe and the tiramisu for dessert. Everything was divine. Thank you so much to the staff of 1639— we will be returning soon

Terrific food and server. The management seemed to not be able to figure out the seating when we arrived though the restaurant was largely empty and we had a reservation. Once we sat down and the server eventually came to our table it was fine.

This place has a very small menu and wine list. The service was good and the fish was very nicely cooked. I recommend this place.

Over priced, and extremely slow service. The staff was incredibly nice but we ended up leaving before the desert came because the entire experience took up too much of our night

Our server Natasha was one of the best servers we've ever had. She made our anniversary dinner so special! The food was delicious and we had a gorgeous seat by the window to enjoy the sunset. A little chilly!!

Perfect restaurant to celebrate special occasions. Was even able to dock our boat right at the restaurant!

Great jazz sound track enhanced our experience at the new fine dining restaurant in the re-done resort on Goat Island. 1639 (named for when Newport was founded) has beautiful views of boats passing on the harbor and of the Point neighborhood's historic houses. It's pricy, but you're paying for the views as well as the very good food. We dined indoors as the outdoor part was taken over by a private party, and enjoyed a beets and herb salad, the smoked duck entree and the striped bass entree. and the fresh fruit pannacotta (which we would have enjoyed more if it wasn't tiny and priced at $18). There's another eatery called the Torpedo Bar and Lounge on the other side of the resort which faces the bridge and bay on the other side, is more casual, and slightly less expensive. 1639 seems to just be getting geared up, as it was only open Friday and Saturday when we were there. The renovation of the hotel has resulted in fun updated entertainment spaces.
