I lived the view! We went for sunset and it was cloudy. So we missed a beautiful sunset, but the view of the harbor and bridge was spectacular!
Came here on a Tuesday night for an amazing rooftop experience but was let down by the service I received. It was empty and it took more than 30 mins to get one appetizer. They also charged me for a drink that I didn’t like. We won’t be back.

Great view of Newport! Drinks are good and food selection, while limited, was very good. Shrimp cocktail was surprisingly good with very large, flavorful shrimp. Oysters were fresh and tasty. Pimento cheese offering was a surprise and one if my wife's favorites. Reservations highly recommended to assure a table, especially on weekends. On sunny days, be sure to bring a hat and / or sunglasses as there is no shade on the rooftop.
The view was lovely. The food and drinks are very over priced and not very good. The plastic wine glasses were tacky and not very clean. Service was more in line with a quick service restaurant than the type of hotel the Vanderbilt purports to be.
Rooftop view at sunset is stunning! But service was slow - mostly because not a lot of staff upstairs. Waitress was nice though and apologetic when backed up. Food was okay and served on paper and wine was in plastic vs glass. Menu was limited, was hoping for more dinner style meals. Nice for drinks but not for dinner.
Beautiful views of Newport! Great drinks and appetizers! Outstanding service! Don't miss this spot!
Good spot to have a few drinks with friends. I went with my boyfriend for after dinner drinks. The drinks were great. The rooftop was a little smaller than anticipated . But the view was very nice as you could see a little bit of everything-the water, boats, bridge and of course skyline . It's behind Mary street parking lot so there's an additional a view of that if you are sitting in the bar seats along the ledge . It was on a Sunday and very energetic with a dj playing mix of music across different generations -Which we enjoyed. It was super busy when we initially got there (730pm) leading to very slow service in the beginning -over 20 mins to get our first drink order taken and 20 minutes for those drinks to arrive. We'd go back again but at a less busy time.
Delishious culinary dishes. Well worth the money. Great service. Thank you Aryna!

It did not live up to the hotel brand. The hostess on the main level just pointed in the direction of the elevator instead of walking you to it or st least to the halfway of it. The hostess on the roof deck was not friendly. However our server was amazing. The food was fair and the presentation lack luster. The view was good as long as you look straight ahead and not down, otherwise you're looking at a parking lot!
Made a reservation as part of a girls trip Beautiful view and very nice server. My only complaint was not the fault of the Vanderbilt but rather the parents who brought their 3 young children and did not control them. It turned a beautiful setting into a loud playground!

A beautiful location with a remarkable view. At the top of the Vanderbilt in Newport, an undiscovered gem. Would like to have dinner in the restaurant next time. Very convnient to downtown.
We had a reservation to eat on the roof deck. Upon arrival we were told our reservation was cancelled because the roof deck was closed due to weather. We never received a call or email letting us know before we traveled to the hotel. They told us they were booked and could not accommodate us inside and we were told to leave.
We booked a rooftop table and, while the restaurant disclaimer says that there's no refund or obligations for weather cancellations, I feel that they should have tried to accommodate us. Instead, they told us to wait, and never checked in with us, and 90 min
You really need to monitor what your employees are saying online. Are you really in the hospitality business?
I made a reservation for the roof deck. Subsequently, the Vanderbilt reached out to me to push my reservation back one hour. I obliged, arrived on time at the updated reservation time, and upon my arrival they told me that the roof deck was closed. In advance of my arrival, I would've preferred for the Vanderbilt to send a message that the roof deck was not open. We ended up getting seated in an empty (but very beautiful) dining room, and despite having the room to ourselves the service was still slow. The small bites and cocktails were fantastic, but we cut the meal short because of service and atmosphere, and found a more lively spot on the wharf for the second half of the meal.
