My family and I had Thanksgiving dinner here. The hotel is beautiful and we loved the ambiance. The food was pretty basic and not exciting. It was a pre fix menu and there wasn’t many choices. The food was bland, but nicely presented. The service was great. It was cozy and a nice place to spend Thanksgiving with my family.

Bartender was great! His drinks were perfect and fun to watch him make too. I recommend his amaretto sour!

My husband and I ate here 2 weeks ago with my parents at around 8:00 on a Saturday night. My parents had waited 20 plus minutes in the lounge for a glass of wine, they brought glasses to them but never served the wine. Service was slow when we were seated at our table as well. It took 15 minutes for the server to bring our bottle of wine out. When we went to order our food the server told us that they were out of what we wanted; that would have been nice to know as soon as we sat down. The server really talked up the bread appetizer, which we ended up getting but it was just average for $9. Entrees were good but not amazing. When the bill came, my dad discovered they were being charged for 2 bottles of wine (we only ordered one). They of course fixed it, but for such an elegant looking restaurant you don’t expect this many mistakes to happen during service.

Beautiful looking restaurant.
The worst meal we ever had.
Every course was horrible!
I pushed the plate away.
We do not recommend!
We based our choice of restaurants on the good reviews, apparently they were all made up.

The waiter had a bigger party in the private dining room, that required all of his attention, Therefore we had to ask for many things. Unaccepyable for an establishment of this caliber. Not sure I'll go back.

I have been to Vanderbilt once before for a cocktail. This was my first dining experience. While the food was tasty and presentation was nice, my friend found a hair in her salad that did not belong to her. The ambiance was nice but it was absolutely freezing temperature throughout our time there, which made it hard to enjoy the birthday dinner. They placed a book on top of the a/c vent but it was a damp cold and windy evening and there should have been heat on in the dining room. I can't say I would dine here again especially for the cost.

All the food here was delicious that we had. The ricotta gnocchi was fresh. The salmon was really tasty and the burger had great flavor. All the servers and hostesses were extremely friendly.

Zach is the best bartender in town. All of the drinks we had were incredible of which he had a hand in creating. He was super personable and very informative about the drinks, helping us pick the perfect cocktails! We will definitely make a point to come back and visit whenever we’re in Newport next!

Good was good. Very limited breakfast dinner. Outside was cute and private. Slower service so don't be in a rush.

Five star service! My friend and I just came back from eating at the Vanderbilt hotel tonight and we were shocked at the wonderful dining experience we had. First of all, it’s BEAUTIFULLY decorated and the vibe is elegant, posh, yet still somehow manages to feel inviting like you want to stay an awhile for some chill conversation.

And while we knew it would be a nice restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of attentiveness and attention to detail by everyone, from the hostess, front lobby attendants, and waitstaff. Our server, I think his name is Cean, was super in his dining and drink recommendations, accommodating my allergy requests, and checking in on us to make sure we were happy. What was also cool to see is that the very friendly staff supports each other, so we had several people checking in on us, giving us status on our orders, making conversations with us, and making us feel comfortable. How comfortable? I’m talking about always pulling out our chairs for us to be seated, being offered a pillow to put behind my back, a staff member came out of nowhere to pickup and replace my friend’s dropped fork before my friend could reach for it, and other staff members also checking in on us to see if we needed anything and offered to take our pictures. The list goes on. And the food was excellent. The special tonight was the rack of lamb and it was perfectly cooked. Our server recommended the toffee pudding dessert with ice cream and I had mine with a latte. Amazing! Hats to the chefs for an awesome dinner, and much gratitude to all the staff for a memorable experience! I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely return next time we’re in Newport.

Not sure where all the reviews come from but SERIOUSLY the WORST experience ever - was there about 4 years ago and the experience then was amazing, not sure what has happened since then it was horrible.
We booked way in advance as a surprise for visiting friends, was a surprise alright because in the end we left there after almost two hours with only having had starters - no drinks were ever refreshed or offered, we had to make a effort to get the attention for a second round of drinks. In fairness to the waiter I think he was overwhelmed as he was the only waiter in the dining room.
As we placed our appetizer order were then told about ten minutes later by the manager that some if it was not available, as you don't have the largest selection it's hard to think that you can't even offer what is on your menu. He did t even apologize or try and get a replacement just ok when we said just leave it then
It really felt like we have the audacity to inconvenience the staff by actually showing up for our reserved table.
If there is a minus rating, I would definitely give that - the manager leaves a lot to be desired and maybe that is why the place was in such chaos and he really didn't care that we decided to walk out without getting our food. Oh, wait we did the plates were ice cold the food lukewarm and then we were told now we would have to wait as they are busy. The manager did not even have the decency to come and talk to us we had to ask the waiter to call him. He also didn't even make an effort to apologize or try and explain the hold up and cold food the response was pretty much let me get your check.
Like I said compares to a prior experience
Way down in what you advertised

You really need to monitor what your employees are saying online. Are you really in the hospitality business?

Elegant setting in the dining room. The service was good as was the food. Noise level was low. Our chicken liver appetizer was outstanding! Very generous portion. Our tomatoes dish was good, but could have had some more burrata and some herbs and spices. My wife enjoyed her duck selection and I enjoyed my sea bass. Our wine was good. Overall an enjoyable evening.
