Excellent service - scallop app was outstanding- clam chowder would have liked some more clams-we also had the haddock which was very well portioned with the clams, perfect cooking- duck was beautifully done, would pass in the parsnips - lack of seasonings- toffee cake delish and great sorbet.

We had a wonderful experience, ambiance was amazing, staff great and food wonderful. The drinks were just OK but overall we really enjoyed our dinner. It was our 39th anniversary and we had a full meal including dessert.

We were looking for upscale dining in town, something other than pub fare that seemed to be served at most places we walked by. Very pleased we decided on this place. The dark walls in the dimly lit dining room gave you privacy and had an intimate feel. Food was great. I had the fish croquettes, octopus and chicken liver mousse. All were delicious. I had a bite of the duck which was also very good. I'd go back if I am ever in the area again.

Pros are great venue and fantastic service. But, these pros are seriously outweighed by the limited menu selection, very expensive prices (and we are from NYC and saying this) , and mediocre tasting food with small portions. We actually left the restaurant feeling angry on how much we had to pay for what we received. We will stick to just cocktails if we go back. (again, we are NYC people who are OK with paying higher prices if the quality is there)

Located in downtown Newport, The Dining Room at The Vanderbilt offers a unique blend of old-time luxury and modern charm. Once owned by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, this historic mansion is now a bustling social spot with delicious food to discover.Inside, you'll find cozy spaces like the Dining Room and the bright Conservatory, each offering a different vibe. The menu features local favorites with a twist, making it a great spot to explore Rhode Island's food scene. What's really special about The Dining Room is its beautiful design. With dark blue walls, comfy leather chairs, and a touch of old-world glamour, it's a perfect place for any occasion, from a romantic date to a business meeting.I recently visited The Dining Room and was impressed by everything. Whether you're a local or just visiting Newport, this place is a must-try. I can't wait to go back and enjoy another meal here! Highly recommended!

Don't bother...We went for Christmas. Yes, the inside is lovely, but the food was not very tasty. There was a good wait for each serving to arrive. I got the meat which was full of fat. We didn't much choice for the meals either. We will not be back.

Had lunch with family. Ordered burgers as part of the Newport, RI Burger Bender. Burger was cooked perfectly and was on point. Jalapeño aioli was killer. Really enjoyed. Staff were very accommodating. My mother-in-law has difficulty with stairs. The staff happily directed us to park behind the hotel to avoid stairs. They had a parking attendant meet us and escort us to the restaurant. Very nice indeed. Lunch time was pretty quiet compared to the hustle and bussle of downtown Newport. Was nice and quiet. Very relaxing for us seniors wanting a quiet relaxing place to dine for lunch.

Ambiance is a 10/10. We went for our anniversary dinner and it was quiet (5:30 PM on Friday), intimate, and classy. Staff was prompt and professional; our waiter provided us with complimentary champagne and took our photos to celebrate the occasion. Appreciated the interesting twist on fried chicken to elevate it to a classy meal! My personal favorite part of the night was being served dessert with a happy anniversary message on it -- and it was scrumptious.

Lovely ambiance, excellent cocktail and wine service. The table side martini is always a treat to see these days. Food was outstanding in concept and execution. Service was knowledgeable if not just a bit inattentive near the end. Excellent dinner, would highly recommend.

The food here was amazing! Each course was beautiful and their cocktail and wine list was fantastic. Our only downside is our waiter.. he was very standoffish and rude and with each course removed plates and drinks from our table before even asking if we were finished, which was a shame. Given that my partner and I were enjoying a celebratory meal and it wasn't as if it was a busy evening, I was shocked at the way our waiter continued to brush us off and rush us along. Maybe just an off night for him! Couldn't recommend the rest of the experience more, though!

The restaurant was very nice , the menu offerings varied and enticing. Service very good also. Only 4 stars due to noise level. The tables were close and the noise reverberated throughout. Maybe some noise absorbing material would help. Otherwise a nice evening.

We had a great experience here. There was a warm welcome from the hostess and manager upon arrival. We sat in the lounge and were attended to right away to have a drink and wait for our table to be ready. The drinks are amazing and the bartender visited us and recreated a favorite drink that wasn't on the menu to perfection. The food was delicious but I'm going back for the amazing service, moody atmosphere, and drinks! I can't wait to experience this place in the summer. Kudos to the manager that kept checking in with us you can tell they care about their customers!

Even though we were not overnight guests, the staff made us feel welcomed and pampered. Our late dinner did not take away from the food quality. Lovely time, great atmosphere, attentiveness from the manager as well as Sam our waiter and the other staff.

We booked a reservation for our son's 19th birthday dinner. We were all very impressed by the food, drinks but especially our servers. Knowledgeable and polite.
