As always, another outstanding dining experience- from the lobster bisque and french onion soups, to the Beef Wellington and finally the caramel apple bread pudding- simply each dish was outstanding, and what keeps us coming back whenever we are in 'close range'. We hail from San Diego, CA- I believe that says everything...
A must if you are visiting Newport, R.I.! Schedule in advance if possible. I am a firm believer everything in their menu is delectable! Service is outstanding. Charming environment.
The service is great. Anyone from the staff that we interacted with was kind. I had the beef Wellington. It was a bit rich for me. Prices just seem a bit higher overall.
Lifelong Newporter finally made my way to eat at this fabulous restaurant. The food and ambiance didn't disappoint!
We won't be dining there again. The lobster bisque was the best part of the meal. The lobster ravioli and the bolognaise were way over salted. We took the left overs and then decided to leave them in the trash at our hotel. The creme breule custard tasted like eggs and we don't know where the orange was in the dish. Service felt rushed and to be honest we were glad to just get out of the place.
Outstanding!! The Beef Wellington was very delicious. They provided a steak knife but you could have cut it with a butter knife it was so tender. We had the Bread Pudding for desert and again it was very good. Would definitely recommend eating here if staying in Newport, RI.
A phenomenal experience. Tim, our server, was professional and very attentive. The quality of food was beyond my expectations, with the Beef Wellington being one of the most tender filets I have ever experienced. The Scotch Egg is an absolute must!
Our drinks and our meal was delicious and our server Jenissa was delightful! Great experience and the restaurant was beautiful and very comfortable!
Scott was our waiter and did a great job!! However, after dinner, we wanted to have a drink in the bar and were patiently waiting for a spot to open either at the very small bar or one of the few tables. The wait staff there was very rude, telling us we should leave because no one was going to leave from the bar area. We were being very patient, unassuming and tried to stand out of the way as much as possible. It was such a let down after such a positive experience with our dining service, to be treated so rudely. We drove the 3 hour trip from Boston on the last night of our trip and quite honestly was very disappointed at how the evening ended.
The food was amazing, but we chose White Horse Tavern (WHT) to celebrate our anniversary in a fancy setting. In the past, this establishment had strict requirements for dress and clientele. Apparently WHT has relaxed the dress code from formal to business casual, but business casual now seems to include shorts and hoodies. Also, a couple with a baby in a stroller were seated 2 tables away from us, and the baby cried. We're parents ourselves and understand babies and small children cannot be completely controlled, but most parents also understand that you don't bring babies and small children to fine dining establishments. As far as the service, it was attentive at the beginning but deteriorated as the restaurant filled up later in the evening. There were long periods of time where we had no drinks or courses to consume, and it was a matter of waiting for the server to come around so we could request the check. The WHT is no longer the experience it once was. If you're looking for a fancy fine dining experience, look elsewhere.

From soup to dessert, love it! I tried the Wellington beef steak frites, delicious! Service was superb too!
Going to the white horse tavern has been on my bucket list for a long time. I figured since it was so hyped , I would be disappointed. Nothing could be further from the truth. We had the best service ever. The food was simply amazing. If you have an opportunity to go , please do.
It was enjoyable and lived up to the expectations. Ate on the first floor. Service was sharp, but not overbearing. Food was excellent. Would definitely eat there again.
The White Horse Tavern is the USA's oldest still existing public restaurant, and its furnishings and rooms point to that historic past. Its signature dish is Beef Wellington, which my husband ordered, while I had two starters, the crispy halloumi and the burrata. All were first-rate. One of the restaurant's advantages is an extensive wine list (some 600 wines), happily including some excellent half-bottles. As we were only two people, we ordered a half-bottle of what turned out to be a fine Margaux, the Baron de Brane. The service was very good except when we were ready to order and had a bit of a wait, but the server was responsible for a lot of tables, so it was to be expected. The desserts looked incredible (and there was a caramel apple bread pudding on offer as a special), but neither of us was able to make room for them after our fine meal. The only negative for me is that we dined on the second floor, and the staircase, which I think is original, is a challenge for people with balance issues (and getting up there in years), particularly on the way down. This is something those dealing with physical challenges should consider.
Wonderful evening. Food was wonderful and the wait staff was attentive. Place was beautiful
