Wonderful coffee shop! Their lox bagel (I get it with avocado on a plain bagel) is delicious!

Really cool place. I watched shorts here, -1 star just because you can hear the music from the cafe in the cinema.

I was a huge fan of the Cable Car, and was a bit nervous to check this place out. What's "microcinema"? I ordered my ticket and sat down, gone were the old couches, instead individual cloth seats with tables. Very cozy, the screen is the same size as the one I watched Microwave Massacre on a few years ago. I only tried a bottled ice tea. Next time I will try the food and drink, check out the movie selection first! So Glad they've reopened!

We went for the first time tonight to see The Color Out of Space, and i was blown away. The Acoustic Java Cafe and Microcinema is amazing. The Staff are pleasant and attentive, the cinema itself where you see the film is comfortable and inviting. I will definitely be making a return trip.

Has anyone gone here yet? It was nice to be back in the arms of the Cable Car, only this new iteration has had a bit of a facelift and the new owner has great coffee and nice beer and is keeping the dream alive. Go support him!

I was looking for something to do this past weekend and stumbled upon the short film festival that was showing here on Saturday. This place replaced the previous Cable Car Cinema that had recently closed. They have a cafe with many different teas, coffees, pastries etc. Supposedly, they also offer a menu with sandwiches and desserts to order, however, when we tried to order something off the menu, we were told the kitchen was closed. We were there around 8pm to catch the 8:30 film so I thought it was a bit unusual that the kitchen was closed. We settled for a couple of muffins which I hate to say, but was probably some of the worse muffins I've ever had. It wasn't so much the taste as that was just o.k., but the texture was very weird. It has a pasty consistency that was just odd. I didn't end up finishing my muffin which is definitely not like me. The theatre area itself was comfortable, but we also had what I think was the most comfortable seating there (the couch) as we were the first ones to arrive. They had a lot of single chairs for people to sit in. Even though it is a small cinema with a smaller screen, the quality and audio was pretty decent. I enjoyed the film and movie experience itself. We got some weird vibes from the staff there. It seemed one of the staff members would acknowledge everyone, but us. For some reason, it felt like we were treated differently than the other patrons there and I'm not sure why, but it was pretty obvious and uncomfortable. For that reason, I probably won't return which is unfortunate because it is a cute little theatre.

Great selection of house crafted teas and homemade snacks. Excellent coffee cappuccino etc. all with a cinema in the back showing free documentaries and paid shows at night. Phenomenal service as well

Had a chai tea latte. There is a small cozy cinema inside of a cafe with a few tables, a decent library and free WiFi. A good place to work on a laptop during the week

Wonderful surprise to see the old space being renovated and repurposed. Coffee is excellent with great food options. The old cinema is open as well and plays movies in a inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend! Lots of coffee house options nearby but this is a great addition with a welcoming vibe.

I moved to Providence four months ago and started asking what my options were for seeing good indie and classic films. Everybody said: "You would have loved the Cable Car, but...." Then I discovered that Acoustic Java had taken over the Cable Car space. But I can't compare the two. So I've dropped in several times during the day so far. Friendly greetings from both manager and servers. A terrific space to drink good coffee, snack, watch a film, or just hang out. Free full length and short films seem to run continuously during the day. Today was a classic noir film ""Woman on the Run". Good film offerings (not free) in the evening, though I haven't gone yet. There's a comfortable outer room, and seats outdoors for the warm weather. And a nice selection of books too. Finally, they're working on getting a liquor license. It all suits me fine.

Mixed feelings about this place. I was excited at first because I feel like new coffee shop experiences are cute, but this one was *eh*. The quirky part of this place is that it doubles as a mini cinema, and you can hang out in the theatre area when there are not ticketed movies playing. Movies usually air around 7pm (weekdays) and 9pm (weekends) with tickets priced at $11. You can pay $9 if you present a student ID. The movies that they show are also pretty quirky (think: Avon Cinema on Thayer material), so come through if you're a film enthusiast. The "cafe" seating area only has a few tables, and they are tiny, so it's good to sit there if you are by yourself or with one other person. I went here to study (did that happen? umm...) and ordered the Iced Java and California Prosciutto Club. The coffee tasted good and gave me energy to continue procrastinating, but the sandwich was a bit of a let down. The order was almost completely incorrect. I ordered it with no tomato or mayo, BUT they added in an egg (I don't eat egg, and it was not in the original description of the sandwich) and forgot to add the cheese. It also didn't seem to have a suitable ratio of turkey to prosciutto. They do have cool, giant free stickers though. And the workers were friendly! But I'm not sure if I'd go again.

Only had an iced coffee so the three stars is more of a place holder than a full review! The coffee was strong; the nitro tap wasn't working so it was "plain" cold brew. Movies run all day, with sound through your earbuds or cell phone. They will also have ticketed shows on a schedule, including matinees. There's an expanded seating area (compared to what was available when this location was the Cable Car cinema), with shelves of books to browse and buy. Definitely will be back for a second visit!
