Highly recommend! Food is fantastic, wine is phenomenal and reasonably priced, service is excellent and makes you feel at home (in multiple languages, even). Great date spot or a fun night with friends.

A snack can't get much better than this! I got the beef empanadas and everything was on point. The flavor was amazing and the side of chimichurri they provided elevated them.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised the filling wasn't shredded beef - they were in small, cubed pieces.

The two staff members who greeted me were so friendly. It was nice they let me take the empanada style to go as well.

spectacular really. came on the quietest of tuesday nights for ives st and was a solo diner in gardel. it was cute to have the whole place to myself but this place will fill up as everyone nearby tries it out. the moody lighting and vibes inside are so romantic whether you’re with your girls, your date, or your favorite relatives. on wednesdays they have live music from 6:30-8:30. my server, viktor, was so attentive and conversational and provided the utmost hospitality. even when the music isn’t live, they have a curated playlist that transports you out of the country. i started with a lemon, cherry, ginger beer mocktail that tasted like a yuzu honey evening drink 5/5. i got the olive con tomate pan and the chicken empanadas with chimichurri as my sauce. amazing olives and flaky empanadas. if you’re doing tapas and drinks here, you will thoroughly enjoy the experience without dinner. however i was hungry so i also ordered the steak with rustic mashed potatoes. the steak was the butchers secret, so it was lean on the inside with a thin trim of fat seared on the outside topped with flaky salt. i loved the fluffy potatoes without the heaviness of too much cream or butter. the gardel sauce was a treat because of the caper berry. i love capers and it was my first time trying a whole caper berry. i wasn’t going to do dessert but viktor got me when he talked about a candied peanut street food that they made cute. if this place were in nyc, it would end up on the michelin guide for sure. i’m coming back soon with friends and family. i enjoyed the outdoor seating before it gets cold.

Loved the atmosphere here for dinner. We ordered jamón ibérico, croquetas, and skirt steak with chimichurri and Gardel sauce. The jamón ibérico was the best I’ve had in the US, just like what I’ve tried in Spain. Honestly, I’d come back just for that and a glass of wine. The croquetas were made with béchamel and prosciutto and tasted exactly like the ones from tapas bars in Spain — so good we ordered a second round.

The skirt steak was cooked perfectly, and the Gardel sauce was a standout. It’s a salty, briny, gravy-like sauce with olives that I’d never had before, and it really elevated the dish.

Overall, I really loved this spot and will definitely return. Hoping they bring back the Basque cheesecake — it was the best we’ve ever had.

If an Argentine restaurant can't cook steak well done there's a problem.

(Edit, my wife is Argentine and said the food was mediocre. The owner obviously can't take criticism)

Delicious and authentic Argentine food in the heart of Providence. Everything tasted great but my favorite dish was the chicken croquetas. Tomas and his team’s skilled service was refreshing as well. Will be back!

Ugh I hate to be writing such a negative review for a restaurant I was so initially excited to visit. I had been waiting months to try Gardel after seeing positive reviews online.

Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. It also was my worst ever dining experience in Providence. I don't ever write negative reviews, but this dining experience was so bad that I had to in hopes that Gardel can take feedback and improve the experience.

To start, there were fruit flies in my wife's tinto de verano. 2 of them to be exact.

We tried the Gardel special fries. I let out an audible sigh of sadness at these. They were the soggiest fries I have ever eaten in my life, and I am a fry connoisseur. I lifted a fry out of the bowl, and there was probably about 1/4 cup of water in the bottom of the bowl. I'm not sure where that came from, but the fries were so awful we didn't finish them.

Finally, the 170g steak. Woof. I don't consider myself a picky eater, but I could have gone to Shaw's and bought / grilled a steak better than the one I was presented. Slightly gray, way over salted. Just plain terrible. And at $26 for 170 grams, I expect a quality cut and cook. The Gardel sauce that came with it basically tasted like someone poured soy sauce and caper together and called it good. For a place that claims to have high quality Argentinian-style meats, I was totally let down.

It seemed like whoever was doing the cooking was doing so with little feeling, little attention to detail and no care. The ingredients weren't quality, and the chef clearly wasn't feeling any passion.

Gardel - I'm rooting for you, and I hope you can turn it around. That being said, I wasted $90 tonight on time and money I'll never get back. I felt disrespected by a meal and chef that truly seemed not to care at all.

If a fine wine and tapas experience is what you're looking for, this is THE place!!! The bar has this quaint and relaxing atmosphere with a good sized bar. The staff welcome you immediately and are highly attentive and personable. Tomas and Mateo were friendly and I was very well taken care of. One last thought: try everything. You will enjoy every last bite!!!!!

I came here yesterday and tried one of the specials, which was the chicken and broccoli rabe tempura. It was incredible. I also had the chicken croquettas; they did not disappoint. The service was also great, and our server was very attentive to my party.

Had a very nice meal here on a weeknight. We were able to walk in and ask for a table of two with no reservation and no wait. The canelones, empanadas, and bife de vacio were the highlights for us, but the gazpacho (a special) and arugula salad were also great. We’ll didn’t have wine, but the selection looked great. We’ll be back!

Amazing service. Good food. The croquetas and the tortilla española were awesome. The peanut, marshmellow desert was one of the best deserts Ive had in recent memory. The cheese board could use a better presentation and the steak could use some brining. These are small tips. Overall, an excellent restaurant with a superb wine selection.

Underwhelming, we left still feeling hungry after an $80 meal. One of the dishes was too charred to eat. Won’t be going back unfortunately.

Having lived in Argentina I was really excited about this restaurant and all the great reviews. We came with a group on a Sunday at midday and were accommodated easily (there was no one else in the resto the whole time we were there). The menu was decent and the food was good, but the service was lacking. Our server didn’t attempt to create a rapport with our group at all, and just seemed disinterested and at times just annoyed. E.g. The empanadas come in a set of three mixed varieties (chicken, beef, caprese) and a vegetarian in our party asked if it would be possible to get an order of just the caprese empanadas and the server just flatly replied “no”. There was no effort to accommodate our friend or respond kindly, just a flat no. The food was fine but not good enough to make us want to come back with the mediocre service.
