My wife & I went for a date night without the kiddos.
Service was fantastic. Came in for our reservations, was greeted promptly & the host/bartender asked for a minute. They wanted to make sure we were comfortably seated because i was so tall & they separate the tables by partitions. I've never had that, & loved the attention to detail.
Server was great and welcoming.
Wife & I split escargot & the wild mushroom soup to start. I'd go back just for that. Escargot wasn't drowning in butter and it was wonderfully cooked. Mushroom soup was the best I've had. Apparently the chef specializes in mushrooms.
We had the Cassoulet a la Maison & Boeuf a la Bourguignon. Both were prepared very well.
I by know means go out of my way for french food but that was a great experience. Also it was our preferred ambience (quiet, dim).
First time diners.

We went for a birthday dinner to Pot au Feu and the experience was very disappointing. We are not foodies. We simply appreciate good, freshly prepared food. This was not to be found at this restaurant.
We ordered the Escargots. We wondered where the garlic and butter was with this appetizer. This was the first disappointment on what was supposed to be a special evening.
My partner had the Fruits de Mer and she was disappointed by the quality of the sea food. The codfish was dry and overcooked, as well as the shrimp. The broth did not have much flavor. My partner is an accomplished cook, she was raised on the ocean and she knows her seafood.
I ordered the Pot au Feu. It came with a small amount of beef and chicken and entirely too much cabbage and potatoes. However, the large bowl of broth that came with it was flavorful. For the exorbitant prices charged at this establishment, we should have been able to count on a better experience.
The staff was very kind to us but it would not be inaccurate to call the atmosphere a bit outdated. The restaurant posts a warning on their website, which reads, “ Yelpsters, Self identifying foodies and crybabies, please, stay away.”
How insulting is this? All customers should be welcome. Excluding those who actually might know what good food is does not comprise a good business strategy. For a restaurant which is Road on a reputation for perhaps too long, we will not be returning. Our time in our dollars will be going elsewhere.
Food is incredible and unique compared to most restaurants in RI. Very comfortable vibe that makes you feel at home

The food was fabulous. The place has loads of old Providence charm with an unmistakably French flair. The owner checks in on you to make sure everything is good. It's not glitzy just great.
We get to Providence only once or twice a year, and our visit isn't complete without dinner at Pot au Feu, one of our favorite French restaurants anywhere. This place has a cozy atmosphere, the bill of fare is enticing, the service is friendly, and the overall vibe is romantic. It's walkable from the downtown hotels (ours, anyway), but we've had no trouble parking. The price? Not cheap, but worth it, especially for an occasion.
The above stars have been well earned . The food and crafted cocktails are unsurpassed in Providence .Truly creative and exotic appetizers and entrees . Service is always impeccable and the owner , Bob Burke was born to be a restaunteer and host . He is a wealth of information on all things culinary and the history of the Providence restaurant scene . Not to mention his antidotes about his late friend Julia Childs .
His sharing of the same with his guests truly enhances the evening . In short we love everything about this gem of a restaurant .

Great French country cuisine, in an intimate atmosphere, with great friendly servers! Highly recommended!!
Love to go here when we get the chance the food is amazing, and the ambience is great. Always a great choice.
I've been dining here since 1982. The owner, Bob Burke, creates an atmosphere that is warm, friendly and inviting. The ambiance serves well for a casual date night, a very special occasion or a quiet dinner with friends. The staff is efficient and attentive without hovering and is intent on meeting all your dining needs with an engaging smile and an ease in making dish recommendations. Chef Spike is such a talent and treasure in the kitchen. He provides the best preparation of all the offerings from the French Onion Soup to the Creme Brûlée. Although the menu has not changed in years, every dish is fresh and prepared to delight not just the tastebuds but the eyes too. It's hard to make a specific dish recommendation because in 40 years - even during Covid take out - everything is so delicious and well prepared. This dining experience has never disappointed. Bon Appétits!

Went to dinner Friday evening, it was incredible! Beautiful old world bistro, with a touch of class. Wait staff helpful, and a wonderful owner/gentleman. Of course my date was amazing to say the least.

A wonderful spot for authentic French food. The dishes were flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care and skill. The staff were personable and welcoming, making everyone feel like a regular. It truly felt like eating in grandma's kitchen, if grandma were a five-star chef. Highly recommend!
Pot au Feu Bistro was one of the greatest dining experiences I've had in RI. It is quaint, romantic, classic, and classy. The food was outstanding, and we never felt rushed. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. Our drinks - the GGGGG (ginger everything) was made perfectly. I cannot wait to return. We had the escargot and oysters for an appetizer and left no crumbs. For an entree, my friend ordered the scrod which melts in your mouth, and I ordered the boeuf bourguignon which was superb!
Absolutely a must try! The ambience was warm and inviting. The service was top notch. The food was excellent! We ordered: escargot, beef bourguignon, and crème brûlée. Amazing flavor! Can't wait to visit again
I can’t begin to give this review fair justice. It literally feels like you’ve been transported somewhere on the outskirts of Paris. You walked down the stairs and our greeted immediately by the restaurant owner Bob Burke. He’s very welcoming, it made me feel right at home, but it is authentic, He just understands people. We sat at a beautiful little table, we’re greeted by an amazing waitress, Hillary. Both Bob and Hillary explained the menu to us, which for first-timers in French cuisine was very helpful. I had the house, special beef, and my wife had the farmers chicken. Both meals were exceptional. We ended up staying in the restaurant for about a good hour afterwards in which we made new friends at the bar, and Bob showed us the entire restaurant from the upstairs dining room to the colonial Tavern. He built downstairs. I can’t say everybody will have the same experience at this restaurant, but I’d wager to bet that if you asked for a tour, you would get one no questions asked. If you’re looking for an amazing date night, I can’t think of a better restaurant in the entire state of Rhode Island. From start to finish it’s a 10 out of 10. Thank you to everybody for the great experience.
