We've been to Yamato a couple of times, and the Habachi grills are never running. Maybe it's just for special reservations? In any event, the sushi is quite nice and always fresh. The service is mediocre and the atmosphere is a bit dark and oppressive - but still an enjoyable meal.

This place fell off a cliff used to be the best sushi locally. The food quality is now poor, lacks freshness, and I have had several terrible meals that I wanted to believe was just an off night. Ordered the tuna tataki that was supposed to be pan seared tuna and what arrived to the table was gray overcooked tough and fishy. The sushi is now terrible and the rolls are sloppily prepared. The meal I tried from their hibachi grill was horrifically salty. We won't be back, going to have to find a new sushi restaurant in RI. Judging from the lack of traffic the last few times I have been in the restaurant the place doesn't have long.

The food was fantastic, however my family went under the impression that it was hibachi. Hibachi food was served, but there was no visible show of the hibachi being made. The seating was insanely cramped, which is a disappointment because the food really was good. I'd go again, but I'd avoid bringing a large party.

I’ve been impressed with Yamato ever since d they opened nearly a decade ago. They’ve been standing on business in that little Smithfield plaza for a long time now, them and D’Angelos. And there’s a reason: Because they’re good. They’re really freaking good. Was never a sushi fan until I started ordering it from Yamato. Now I’m always on the fence between sushi or a hibachi dinner. But it doesn’t matter because they always deliver. Because they’re really freaking good! ? ??

Really great to have a sushi place like this nearby! Rolls are super good. All fresh. White Swan Roll was new for me, and very good! And don't sleep on the sweet potato roll.

Used to be great. They raised their prices and the quality has gone way downhill. Used to be the best place in Smithfield. Will never go back again.
