Cap’n Jack’s in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, is the perfect little seaside spot. We shared the tuna nachos, which were absolutely amazing, along with some calamari and ice-cold beers that hit the spot. The ocean views, laid-back vibe, and great food make it a must-visit for anyone looking to unwind by the water. Definitely a cool spot worth stopping at!
Today was our first time ever trying this Resturant,My daughter treated me and I have to say the food is unbelievable and the atmosphere and service was excellent,We tried the clam cakes & oysters for appetizer's,The clam cakes are rhetorical best I’ve ever had,She had a huge pork chop with onions and potatoes that was out of this world and I had the Lobster roll with a salad and it was amazing. The prices are very reasonable and we will definitely be back soon.

We visited Captain Jack's for lunch, drawn by the beautiful marsh/ocean setting. The experience was disappointing due to staffing challenges and inconsistent food quality.
Only two waitresses were working a full dining room (around 70 people). While the service pace was surprisingly good considering the heavy traffic, the immense pressure on the staff was noticeable, occasionally resulting in curt responses that felt a little unwelcoming.
On the food side, quality was highly variable:
* The Shrimp was excellent—the definite highlight.
* The lobster was slightly overcooked and tough.
* The crab cakes were poorly executed; they seemed like fried dough balls with almost no crab meat or flavor.
* The corn was overcooked and mushy.
* The clam chowder was thin, lacking both clams and proper thickness.
* Dessert was also off: the apple crisp apples were hard, and the topping was in large, chunky pieces.
Overall, it's an okay lunch at best. The kitchen and front-of-house need significant support and quality control to match the beautiful location.

Cap'n Jack's is located in walking distance to East Matunuck Beach. The restaurant offers inside, outside, and take out dining. The outside dining has a view of the salt marsh and wildlife. The food and desserts are very tasty. The service was friendly and the food came out to us quickly. The restaurant could use a bit of an update, but overall very nice experience.

Now managed by a third generation, this family owned restaurant is a must stop. The clam cakes are crispy, the fries are perfect and clam chowder is available RI or NE style. Save room for dessert, they have a great selection. Seating on the patio offers a view of the marsh and is not overcrowded.
The staff is amazing, warm, friendly and attentive. This was my first visit and I will be sure to return. If you’re lucky, March to the end of July, “Atticus” the Osprey can be seen on the nest atop the restaurant sign!

Looking for a place to eat that would have food items other than fish for my friend.
Let me 1st say, the staff were really nice. Ordered a specialty cocktail, bad decision. Ugh. sorry
The food? Frozen calamari, flavourless! (no thanks!) Pizza tough like the bottom of my shoe. Total utter disappointment. Only paid for our drinks, I asked for a mudslide after the cocktail I sent back.and pizza. How much can you say, Everything was awful. They also took off calamari on our bill. Still shelled out $50 not worth it.
Great chowda and cakes. Better than jims dock. Which I've went to on 8/14/2025. Went back to jims on 9/11. Doors still locked at 1145. They open at 1130. And yes they were open

So for a seafood place this place is worst seafood I've ever had. They didn't season any of the seafood. Fried fisherman's platter 2 shrimp fried thats it no seasoning. 2 pieces of fish no seasoning, fried soggy some parts not even fully fried, scallop were bad fried and the scallop themselves were bad tasted like a penny fried(so food handling and inspection was not in their daily habits), 2 clam strips no seasoning. Calamari was like rubber bands fried, didn't taste like anything, even with the peppers... how do you have flavorless peppers? New England Clam chowder was quarter sized potato's 1 or 2 small pieces of clams and white water. I don't know how you make chowder that watery but I'm sure water was thicker than that chowder. Clam cakes had 2 pieces of clams and all dough fried. They didn't even season the dough! Who the hell is the chef there?! In total we spent 150 dollars for fried flavorless crap. I wouldn't have fed homeless people this food. My wife and her family used to go there when they were younger and said it was good... if this is Rhode Islands version of good you guys are better off eating at McDonald's or the trash. Do not sped a dimension on these people's food. You been warned.

First and last time I will eat a Captain Jack’s. We went there for clam cakes, which weren’t bad, but should have stopped with them. I ordered the fisherman‘a platter and New England clam chowder. The chowder was watery and tasteless. The breading on the seafood was bland and greasy. The French fries were pretty tasteless too. The chef should go across the street to the snack shack at the beach, their fries were delicious. The best part of the meal was the wait staff and Sons of Liberty larger. The worst part was the cost of a terrible meal. Never again. Tom

Big X on this place, never again. Did take out, lady was SO mean she’s like some older lady, so rude, and she shoved the bag I. Our face when our order was all set, she put everything in one tiny paper bag sideways, so the sauces fell all over the place, and it was 25 bucks for a tiny amount of whole belly clams with no fries or coleslaw ridiculous I’m never spending money here again

Had a great dinner tonight. Started off with a delicious cocktail and had an incredible stuffy and shrimp and a clam roll and of course dessert. Our waiter Jack was excellent. We will definitely be back.
Clam Cakes? More Like Clam Mistakes I came here for a classic New England treat. I left questioning my life choices, my taste buds, and whether clams even exist in nature. Let’s start with the chowder. It was supposed to be “creamy,” but it had the consistency of wallpaper paste and tasted like regret. I think I spotted a clam, but it might’ve just been a potato going through something. And the clam cakes? Oh boy. Imagine a hush puppy that lost a bet. Greasy on the outside, weirdly empty in the middle, and somehow managed to taste like fish and absolutely nothing at the same time. We tried adding hot sauce to bring them to life—still dead. I asked the server, “Are these fresh?” and they said, “They’re recent.” What does that mean?? Are they time travelers?? Am I? Final verdict: If you’ve ever wondered what sadness tastes like deep-fried and served in a basket—this place has you covered. If anyone needs me, I'll be on the toilet its about a 35 minute ride, Goodnight.
We go to Captain Jack’s every vacation and the food is great! The dessert’s are amazing! This year we had Jack(no relation) as our waiter and he was super, very friendly!

One of the worst tasteless seafood platters I've ever had. The 4 greasy scallops smelled like ammonia and batter fell off them. The small amount fried clams with bellies tasted old and were tough, no french fries, 3 shrimp, 2 pieces of fish all for $55.
