I’m new to Charleston from New York. So I know food and beverage and atmosphere. East Bay Bier Garden is sensational! Furthermore, they respect veterans fire police and first responders and give us a discount. Very nice and patriotic. It’s a far cry from the 1960s when Soldiers - Like Police - were pigs! My husband and I are visiting the area for a few days. This place was recommended by the staff of our hotel and was a short walk. The ambiance was very comfortable and inviting. Sarah took great care of us and was very helpful in selecting beers to our liking. She was very personal and friendly. Since we had plans for dinner later we didn’t want a full meal , but did get a pretzel and loaded tots, which were amazing!
Great beer garden with indoor and outdoor seating and service. Large selection of beers on tap and in bottles/cans. Cocktails as well. Variety of food items, and more than just the typical cheese fries and nacho options. Appetizer menu included wings, pimento cheese bites, eggplant fries, and German style potatoes to name a few. Main dishes we had were the falafel pita, grilled Caesar salad, Jagerschnitzel, and a turkey club. All of us enjoyed our meals. Portions were large. Food was fresh, arrived hot and freshly prepared to the table. The dishes were flavorful and very good. I had the falafel pita. It came open faced and was too big to pick up and eat, needed a fork and knife. Packed with falafel which was crispy on the outside and very flavorful. The pomegranate molasses sauce was a nice addition and added a touch of sweetness without being over powering. Also ordered haus garlic fries which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and also packed with flavor (and not greasy). Service was good, staff was friendly. A lot of TVs available to watch sports. Friends, couples, and families in attendance.

I had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at Bay Street Biergarten, and it all started with the hostess, Casey. From the moment I walked in, she seemed annoyed to even be there. Instead of greeting us with a smile or even basic courtesy, she acted like we were inconveniencing her by showing up. When we asked about being seated at a certain table, she gave vague, dismissive answers and clearly didn’t care about helping us.
What should have been a simple and welcoming start to the night turned into frustration and irritation because of her attitude. A hostess sets the tone for the entire experience, and unfortunately, Casey’s lack of professionalism and customer service skills ruined ours before we even got seated.
If Bay Street Biergarten wants to keep customers coming back, they need to seriously rethink who they’re putting at the front door.
