Kind of a bizarre experience at Beautiful South. We were seated very quickly, which was great (restaurant was relatively empty since we were there early for happy hour). When we started pondering the Happy Hour, the host overheard us and very nicely pointed out that the Happy Hour was for any cocktail on the menu, but we had to sit at the bar.
We felt bad, but had just sat down, so we asked if it would be a big deal to move to the bar (kind of expecting it to be a non-event, as every other seat in the restaurant was still open). Our waiter gave us an upset reaction... He might have been just kidding around with us, but it was not obvious & it was an awkward transition to the bar - which is where we found out that there was an entirely different happy hour menu which featured none of the cocktails we were pondering LOL. It was not a big deal - we just ordered off the normal menu, but the entire experience was confusing and set the tone for the rest of the meal. The dining experience at the bar was probably not as great as it would have been at table (specifically, the bartender wasn't really able to answer questions about the menu), but the food was good!
Won't be back to Beautiful South, but definitely eager to try Kwei Fei!

Always a pleasure to visit Beautiful South. The staff is all friendly, attentive, and accommodating. And the space is inviting and alive. The dining area has a more cozy section with booths and a buzzier section with small tables, but we always enjoy the spaceous bar, where Johnathan and Gabriel make excellent drinks (on and off menu) and are genuinely hospitable fellas. All of the food is cooked with care, good luck trying to decide what to eat without doing a complete tour de force of the menu. Beef dumplings are extremely flavorful, don't be scared of the rose water - it's just a hint but a unique and memorable one. The green beans are good enough to eat a popcorn bucket full. And the Hunan chicken is unctuous and saucy and just delicious. Did I mention there is plenty of convenient parking? What more do you want?

My first time there and likely my only time. While the atmosphere and decor was on spot, the food and service lacked. The pork dumpling were the brighter spot for the food, but the eggplant was undercooked and the skin was tough. The chicken special was not very special. There was inedible pieces of asparagus stalk and undercooked scallion pieces on over-cooked chicken. Service was nice but not timely. Our drinks took 20 min to serve. The rice for our dish came ten min earlier than the dish. The wait for the waitress was way too long if we wanted to order more drinks. The tables are too close together for larger folk; we are small folk and still had to navigate sideways to get to the table.

The food is fun here. We had lots of appetizers and three shared dishes. Flavorful, unique and very chef-driven dishes. Prices are totally reasonable.

Beautiful space. Came here on Saturday night. Absolutely delicious food. Had the crab Rangoon which came with these wonton chips. Shrimp shumai also was amazing. Then shared the pork Lo mein and general tsos chicken. Everything was spectacular. Service was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Had an early lunch. Love the lunch menu selections - difficult to choose. Had the green beans which were the best I have had. Flash fried just right, came out very hot from the kitchen. Yummy flavor (we added soy sauce.)
Next had the crab rangoons. Would pass on these next time. Sort of like a crab dip with fried wontons to spread it on. Dip is served cold. Flavor was sort of bland.
Entree of Hong Kong noodles. Super yummy dish. Would order again. We split this dish and have enough for another meal along with the green beans.)
Will be back to try other menu items.
Our bill before tip was $56. No cocktails. Maybe next time in the evening.
