second time I've been there and couldn't get served. Stood around with 4 others looking for someone to take our order. After realizing that half the tables were filled with folks who ordered but not been served, I gave up and left. One time maybe there was a staffing problem. Twice, it's a big problem.

Excellent burgers, ice cream, fries and atmosphere. Unsurpassed service - Tyler is the consummate gentleman!
Joyland was the highlight of our day!!! My name is Joy so I was excited to check it out! After looking at the menu we almost left because we figured a burger was just a burger and we could get a good burger a lot of places but we decided to give it a try. We tried the crust burger and the burgers were delicious! The waffle hash browns were crispy and good too! When I told them that my name was Joy they spoiled me with fun merch and were so fun and thoughtful!!

First of all, the cold brew, chef's kiss. Phenomenalš. The lady who made it, kudos. I asked for chocolate in my cold brew and she could have said no due to doing a little extra work. But she did it and it was scrumptious. The food was also very delectable. The fries were made right with the sauce which is the cherry on top. The burger was good too! I will say, I am a saucy girl, so if you could add more sauce to the burger, that would be great. But overall, really good food, the employees were really nice and considerate. The atmosphere is almost like a 50s diner. The music choices were also really good (90s-early 2000s music). I will say, if you could mix more of like newer songs too, that would be cool. Generally though, really cool restaurant, would go again.

Visited the beautiful Charleston area for my adult daughterās birthday that must eat GF. Visited Joyland on 11/08 around 10:20am was told by the server to come back at 11am due to a big catering order. We stepped outside then I immediately went back in to confirm that at 11am they would be serving GF Fried Chicken Biscuits at 11. I told the young staff lady that we came specifically for that and that we would return. She reassured me at 11am they would be serving. We visited the farmers market across the street. Returned at 11:07am⦠the lady employee saw me. āOh snapā flew out of her mouth as soon as she laid eyes on me and recognized me. She then tells me that her manager said they would not be serving due to catering order! IF you have that big of an order then get more employees in to handle the load. Lock the door and put a sign on the door. DO NOT TELL customers to return that youāll be serving. We chose Joyland due to the reputation of your GF, terrible experience. Train your server and manager better! Do NOT tell people to return and donāt fulfill their expectations.

Unsanitary. One of the workers coughed in their hand then proceeded to pack my food..
Best burger Iāve had so far downtown and Iāve been here the past three years! I was gonna take a picture but after my first bite, I totally forgot to! š plus itās cheaper than most burgers which that to me is wild! You will definitely get a bang for your buck!

Sean Brock is a renowned chef, I loved Husk when he ran it, and Iāve been hearing about Joyland and its crustburger for a long time (including seeing it featured in cooking magazines). Iāve been waiting to try it for several months and was excited to have the opportunity today.
Walking into the restaurant immediately worried me. Itās dark and dingy, garbage was on the floors, there were empty display cases, and when we got to the counter there was a tub of congealed cheese sitting on it. I still trusted Chef Brock so we ordered burgers and fries; we were told they were out of crinkle-cut fries and the manager had just run to the store to get more (so the fries are from Walmart?) so we agreed to curly fries. We got our drinks but they were out of straws (they eventually found their stash) and one of the napkin dispensers was empty.
The food was brought to our table by a brusque though attentive server and the burgers were mediocre. The crustburger had good texture but salt was the predominant flavor. My wifeās deluxe burger was better but not as good as 5 Guys, Shake Shack, or some local favorites (notably Triangle Char and Bar). The curly friesāalso from Walmart?āwere the definition of fine. Certainly not what I expect from a chef like Brock.
Iām curious what Brockās role is in the restaurant now. Does he check on it? Does he do any quality control? I would imagine heād be horrified walking into a dirty dingy depressing establishment with mediocre food that sells his cookbooks and highlights his connection to the restaurant. But maybe he doesnāt care?
Joyland? Not even close.

The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. One person in our party had celiac disease. Joyland is a very accessible restaurant for gluten free eaters. The burgers were crispy, the sauces were great, and the fries were all of those things as well. I havenāt had a waffle hash brown anywhere else and I loved it. I look forward to my next visit. I have my eyes on the dipstick!
