Have been hearing about and seeing pictures of this place ever since it opened, so we had to get a reservation when we were in town for a wedding. First word of warning -- this place is kind of...weird as far as reservations and seating goes. There are 3 (or more?) separate seating areas, one of which is completely next door (in the Quinte, I'm guessing a sister restaurant/bar in the same group?). So make sure you know which room you're getting when you book, it's not very straightforward from pictures or Resy. The Tavern room is probably what you've seen -- long cozy bar and room with eccentric pictures lining wallpapered walls, leather chairs, low lighting, and close tables. This is what you want. The dining room is a little brighter room up front with more space and a little less character. And in distant last place, the bar (I think?), they take you outside and next door to The Quinte and seat you by the bathroom. I'm sure the Quinte is fine in its own right for a pre-dinner drink and some oysters, but seating for a $200+ meal it is not. Anyway, the vibe of this place is great - perhaps the best part about it. The food...not so much. I'd looked at the menu online beforehand and while there were only a few changes once we'd sat down, the main things I'd wanted to try (butterbean toast, bucatini & chanterelles) were nowhere to be seen. I figured it was outdated since chanterelles aren't in season, but still disappointed. We ended up getting a few starters, a few mids, and split an entree. Our server grouped them, but the timing was strange. I didn't need the pickles with the biscuit (which was just OK), but they would've really helped the sourdough & mayonnaise. More on the sourdough & mayo -- probably the best thing we had and that's saying a lot since it was a couple piles of mayonnaise hiding a boiled egg with some anchovies to spread on toasted bread. The tartare was...OK - definitely needed some brighter mustard, and the chips were near burnt. We split the schnitzel and while the salad on top was awesome, the pork itself was a little oily and not that flavorful. Overall, wish we would've had the sourdough/mayo with the pickles, the schnitzel salad as its own thing, and gotten a different entree. Drinks were good but pricey (I don't like living in an $18-22 cocktail world, but it looks like we're there now in Charleston), service was attentive, and again the atmosphere was great. Long-winded review, but this place has the vibe right but the food that we ordered wasn't stellar or that memorable for the price point (for a couple of regular ol people). I'm sure their menu changes constantly, but this place needs a signature, and we may have just ordered poorly. I'd probably go back to get a small plate and some drinks at the Tavern bar, and check out The Quinte as its own experience. Make sure you get the right table!
Parking: I think they might have a valet available (tied in with the hotel next door?), but we just threw it in the George St garage and walked a few blocks. Street parking all around but expect to cruise for a minute if it's a busy time.

One of the best restaurants in Charleston. Very creative menu. 3 people on our night out each dish was amazing.
Vegetarian options: Very accommodative regarding my wife's shellfish allergy.

My girlfriends and I booked one of the 'Curated Chef Menus' for a bachelorette dinner recently and had an amazing experience! We had a group of 12 so I booked through their Event Manager and was given a few prix fixe menus to choose from. We went with the Red Sauce is for Lovers package - highly recommend!! The food was absolutely incredible, the portion sizes were great, and everyone left full & happy. My friends are still talking about the roasted cauliflower! And the dessert came out in the cutest little miniature espresso martini glasses. Definitely suggest going this route if you have a large group! Super seamless experience, and the service was great

I am so happy to discover this hidden gem of culinary Charleston.
The food is amazing! All dishes artistically crafted.
Everything tastes fresh and perfectly balanced. They use lots of local ingredients, and do a lot of things in house. Their menu is creative and has a lot of unique offers, not just like everywhere else.
The atmosphere and service are excellent. Angela was our waitress and made us feel very welcomed.

Wonderful experience dining at Lowland! Food, service and atmosphere all excel. Make sure to try the cheryl day biscuit, and can't recommend the bucatini enough. The grilled triggerfish was also out of this world. Cannot wait to return!

I hate to do it, but average at best. We were so excited to come here and it just didn’t live up to expectations. The food was OK, nothing special. Definitely not worth making a special (and expensive) trip for. Service was also just OK. Nice people, but clearly just moving you through the restaurant. Cocktail and beverage program was also just OK- nothing particularly exciting or interesting on the menu. Go to Vern’s - that place will leave you speechless.

A gentlemen sitting on our flight to Charleston recommended Lowland Tavern to us. I had read about the chef from Fig had opened this restaurant. He recommended the Cheryl Day biscuit and the celery salad. We have been to Charleston many times as we fly in there to go to HHI . It was phenomenal. The Entrees were as good. Never had celery salad but the complex tastes were unforgettable. The biscuit was to die for. The runner turned me on to Cheryl Day as she apparently owned a bakery or restaurant in Savannah and equally famous in Savannah. I love to cook and will acquire a copy. Highly recommend this restaurant.

This was an incredible place we just happened upon. We took a chance and got lucky with two seats at the bar for dinner and drinks. From the moment we stepped in we knew it would be a unique experience and it was! The food is INCREDIBLE the drinks are INCREDIBLE and the staff, absolutely INCREDIBLE. We can't wait to stop back in when we're in town again. Thank you Lowland for giving us a beautiful honeymoon memory.

Lowland was an exceptional dining experience. Excellent service, food and drink. Lovely cocktails. The celery salad was beyond fabulous! And the pork schnitzel was the best we had ever eaten. Definitely dining here every time we visit Charleston!

Ordered bread and they served to us burnt with nothing to taste but charcoal. Waiter didn't even know the size of the prime rib then when they checked suddenly they had run out. Ragu had tomatoes in sauce but waiter said it was just a lemon sauce. Restaurant was a freezing temperature too. Starting to think this city's food is just a terrible knockoff of New Orleans.

Great food, remarkable ambience, terrific setting. But “train wreck“ service. We know wine, but did not know the specific bottles and so asked for help, and on the advice of their “wine expert“ Graham chose a $160 bottle that he swore he had tasted and found remarkable. What came was of a different vintage, OK supermarket wine, definitely not $160, so the guy was blowing smoke, had no idea what he was talking about. More than half the bill so this really stung. You can’t charge these wine prices without having somebody knowledgeable to give legitimate advice, just alone this is reason to avoid this place.
Waited a long time for food as our waitress doubled back to note she had forgotten what we ordered. Later I caught her near the kitchen that it wad my wife’s birthday and asked for the panna cotta dessert with a candle. After the meal, she brought dessert menus, and when my wife said she didn’t want anything, our waitress shrugged and walked away. The nature of a birthday candle dessert is that it’s a surprise, and the guy paying had specifically asked for it, but somehow my credit was no good.
There is a promising restaurant with excellent food and a remarkable venue. Remedial staff training is urgently required. Over $300 not well spent, we won’t be back, and we are locals
