Wow! I moved to CHS from the SF Bay Area a few years ago & I love Asian food… Thank you Makan - we’ve been waiting for you! The wonderful flavors & spices in the red curry are amazing. The fresh ginger in the Malaysian gimlet is everything . Love it and so happy this restaurant is here! Hannah is a very talented bartender.

as a Malaysian, food is mid and staff vibes were weird but if you really want to try it out the Char Kwey Tiao was good

We visited Makan for dinner tonight, sat at the bar and had a great experience. Our server, Lexi, took the time to explain the menu in detail. We took her advice and were glad we did. The food is amazing. The drinks are unique and so good. Lexi made the whole experience. She has great energy, engaged with us during the meal, checked on us with every course to make sure everything was perfect and made us feel at home. We’ll be back.

Surprised I haven’t heard more about this place! One of the best Asian food experiences we’ve had in Charleston. Great for a group, delicious drinks, and the food was awesome.

Delicious creative dishes, generous portions, the best mocktail I’ve had in Charleston, and super friendly service. Underrated gem.

This was our first experience with Malaysian food. It was mild and would easily please a group of varied eaters. We enjoyed everything we ate! I came here though to rave about the service. We had the nicest experience with Lexi as our waitress. She had great recommendations, friendly conversation, and attentive service. We left feeling like we’d made a friend.

I went here with a group of 4. We had the spiced peanuts and Berempah Potatoes. I loved the peanuts with the fried anchovies they were surprisingly good and such an interesting combination. We had several mains I enjoyed. I especially liked the Sambal Udang Petai. There is just something about the combination of the beans, sambal and shrimp that really works.

I can't wait to go back! The chicken wings were fall off the bone and had the perfect little char. I could fill up just in the roasted potatoes w yogurt sauce. The noodle dish was enough for two meals and delicious! You might not think about ordering the burger but you'd be missing out. And the cocktails were tiny but mighty. Mine had the perfect balance of lemongrass and ginger

Do not sleep on this place. The cocktails were inventive and perfectly executed. Tried 2 of the noodle dishes and both were full of flavor, addictive, and perfectly cooked. Mix that with great service, and you have one of the best spots in the downtown area. Will certainly be back to try more of the menu.
