Quaint intimate dining experience. Food was incredible, service was great. Drink options only offered wine, but very extensive selection!

Only went here for Sherry and some basque cheesecake. Amazing Sherry selection and the cheesecake was one of the best I’ve ever had.

We came here a year ago and it was 11/10 and couldnt wait to return.... It almost feels like a different place or management this year. The food was mediocre at best or was a just an off day. Specifically the shrimp was mushy, chorizo had no flavor, and the bread was grocery store level. Wine excellent and really love the space though... will likely pass for next time but hope they can turn it back on next time around.

I would argue that Malgón has the best bread service in Charleston. We stopped in for appetizers and wine. Our server was great and the patio was suuuuper cute. Blankets were provided on the patio as well, which was the perfect touch on this chilly evening. I’ve dinned here a few times and this is easily one of my favorite spots in Charleston.

The chef is married to the chef at Chez Nous and the staff at Chez Nous recommended coming for the churros. So I did.It was really good. The portion is very big and at a very reasonable price. And very crispy, really well cooked.I wish it was served with a chocolate ganache or dulce de leche though, but it is a great dessert regardless.

Every plate we ordered was excellent. The lamb, the octopus, patatas bravas, chicken, and oh the tortilla espanola, soft in the middle just as it should be. All the plates were served pipping hot. Our server (Emma?) was fantastic, as was the hostess. The basque cheesecake, hard to find in many places, is on the menu, a soft creamy cheese confection that is like no regular cheesecake. At first the small space appears loud and cramped, but our party of two didn’t notice after a short while and our tables were quite comfortable. My only regret, not going there earlier on our trip so we could have gone back, it was our last night in Charleston. Prices are commensurate with the quality of the food, yes they are smallish tapas but so well done. Go to this place.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston- and I'm a foodie who has lived here for over 8 years. If I have guests in town, this is where I take them. Everything on the menu is delicious, and I'm not exaggerating. The atmosphere is very European; intimate and romantic. The service is always impeccable as well.Must-have dishes: Chicken, la Bomba, the Sobrasada, Pork, and THE CHURROS (I have dreams about them). Trust me. Just go.Kid-friendliness: I would leave small children at home as it's a very small restaurant. Also the menu is pretty mature.

Our group of four arrived for our 8:30 reservation. After a brief discussion between the the staff, we were escorted to the standing bar. No explantation of why we were not being seated. The bartender told us she was going to take care us and we were handed menus. Unsure if we are supposed to eat here or what's happening. Waiters are frustrated that we are standing here because its hard to get around us with dishes. The hostess put us here, I don't want to standing here anymore than you want me here. Finally seated 25 minutes after our reservation, foods ok, beef cheeks come out cold, we send them back to be heated up, which we are loathe to do. Few minutes later someone other than our waiter returns with them and warns us in a condescending manner that we need to be careful the plate is "piping hot" It wasn't.So maybe a bad night, whatever. Communication was awful, felt like we were treated like jerks. Sent them a note about our experience, no response. Probably won't give them another chance.

Since moving down to Charleston, I have been to Malagon probably about 5 times already. Full disclosure, I've only been living here for 2 weeks! First time I came to Malagon, I was with a friend who has been living here in Charleston for over 6 years and was baffled at how she was just experiencing this amazing restaurant for the first time due to my arrival. But I myself, wasn't ready nor prepared for this food experience or 5+ star service that was given. From the moment I walked into the restaurant , I was greeted by this charming, charismatic, kind, yet handsome man with a very distinctive French warm accent. I told him I was a party of two and told him I didn't mind dining at the bar. The feel of the restaurant was small and intimate but inviting. The waiters and waitresses dress in unison and the flow of the restaurant was energetic. My waitress “Emma” greeted me in a timely manner, because as a New Yorker(I) myself can be impatient but have to remember to be patient and just enjoy the experience. She was so sweet and kind with her southern draw was very endearing. As I waited for my friend, enjoyed the atmosphere and ate some sourdough bread with olive oil. You can never go wrong with that combination. Once my friend arrived, it was on! I ordered so much that I can't even begin to go through each dish. And because it's Spanish tapas, it's meant to share and be shared that you end up ordering everything. And when I say you won't be disappointed, you will not be. Chef Juan who is Colombian, who has truly done something special At Malagon left me coming back for more! Thank you for creating such an amazing menu and to your team for executing your vision throughly. Mid way through the every bite, my friend and I was checked in on by another handsome man with blonde hair in a slick back man ponytail who was also just as kind and gracious as the first Gentleman. Thank you for the amazing hospitality again.Last but MOST Importantly !DO.YOURSELF.A SERVICE.AND.GET.THECHEESSECAKE! I tried to take a piece back to NYC for my mom(it made it from CHS TSA to my gate in CHS).
