Melvin's BBQ - James Island

$30 for just 2 small bbq sandwiches that’s mid bbq. So you can’t order over the phone either. So I placed
A order online today for the first time 10/9/25. I ordered 2 lil Joe bbq sandwiches the one I received was ok at best. The other was in a plastic container no bread no fork. I called them they refused to make it right saying I should have been smarter and put bun for my bread which I did. I was just up the road working I would have came and got the bread. Instead a Spanish fellow said he didn’t want my service anymore. I never got disrespectful or cuss nothing like that. I don’t right many reviews at all because it’s pointless. However this place sucks.

Been here many times before. Ordered the same meal I always do, but to go. Got down the road and our ‘lil Joe basket’ x2 had no bbq sauce on the sandwiches and no fries!! $40 plus tip at the register. But only Half a basket received. I’ve never had a sandwich from this or any other affiliate from one of the brothers without the sauce already on it. Very disappointing and frustrating.

I got a takeout smoked turkey sandwich and was very disappointed when I started to eat it. It was made with what seemed very stale sandwich bread. The turkey slices had tough edges that were impossible to eat, and the meat itself was so salty that I never could finish the sandwich. I hope that this bad sandwich was a fluke.

Whether we’re picking up or eating in we are always treated with the utmost respect, the food is always phenomenal and it’s never not enough food. So glad my favorite childhood restaurant is still here ❤️

We were looking for smewhere to get bbq for lunch and we found Melvin's. As we walked up the fires were going outside and the smell of the smoke hit me right away. I ordered the little joe pulled pork sandwich. I made it a basket which adds fries and a gigantic onion ring. The pork is moist and just slightly flavored with the mustard sauce. That is nice because I could taste the pork. Then I can add more sauce as desired. The onion ring was a thick onion coated in this sweet batter that puffs up really big and golden brown in the Fryer. Delicious!

Used to be great, hit the drive through and the guy was high pressure from the git go. So without time to look at the menu we just ordered 2 Melvin burgers, 2 fries,because the pressure was on. Try to add drinks and got the grumpy response of hold on, now I have to start the orders over again. Then we pull forward only to sit and wait 15 min to get to the window so we can wait ten more minutes. We pulled away to park and eat only to bite into like warm, very dry fries, like warm dry burgers with a dime size dab of condiments, wilted lettuce, and hot house tomato with the hardest white core still in it. All for 38 dollars and change. No wonder he was in such a hurry to push everyone through, they don't want to give you a chance to see the slop their trying to pass of as food! Never again, buyer beware.

I was given a great opportunity today to experience the soft opening of Melvin's soon to be new food truck! While the food truck does not offer their full menu, it was still a great experience. They offer their main items like pulled pork sandwiches, pulled chicken sandwiches, and burgers that are cooked to perfection with sides of your choosing. Myself and a couple others that joined me all tried different menu items and inhaled the food it was so good.

The staff was friendly and a pleasure to deal with and we had our food in 5 minutes or less which was perfect for a quick lunch break!

I am excited for when this food truck is permanently open and I WILL be back.
