Good spot for coffee. Just wish staff would pay attention to what is ordered. About 50% of the time my order is wrong. But coffee and food are both good.

The food was 10/10! The peanut butter cookies were incredible and the staff was really nice! It was hard to find available seating and it was pretty loud but we went during the busy lunch hours.

After really digging Bar Mash the previous, and staying within walking distance, I was craving a smoothie and figured I'd check out the coffee bar. Not a great experience. One person working the coffee bar register, one making drinks. Very slow, overall. Not helped by a woman--I believe a manager--talking to and distracting the drink-maker. There were at least a half-dozen of us waiting for drinks, and that woman wasn't helping at all.
Smoothie was pretty good. $12 for 16oz is WAAAAAY too expensive.

Been going here for years. Very rare to wait in line, and when other places are full, they keep things moving. Food is made to order, very good! We placed an order to go on-line and they didn’t make our iced drink until we showed up. I thought that was excellent customer service.

A must-visit in Charleston!
Mercantile and Mash blew me away. From the moment you walk into this beautifully restored historic building, you're met with a vibe that blends charm and intentional design. There’s plenty of seating, and it’s not just functional. It’s varied and inviting, with spaces perfect for studying, casual meetups, or just kicking back and relaxing. It somehow manages to feel both open and cozy at the same time.
The coffee options are top tier. Thoughtfully crafted and clearly made with care. I had a layered espresso drink that not only tasted amazing but looked gorgeous too. The buffalo chicken sandwich was the real deal. Crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The menu overall offers great variety, from smoothies to pastries to hearty breakfast and lunch options.
One of the standout details was the bathroom setup. Multiple individual stalls that are private and super convenient, especially for a busier place like this. That kind of detail really shows they care about the customer experience.
The Mercantile side of the shop is equally impressive. You can browse everything from curated wines to snacks, specialty meats, and gift-worthy local goods. It’s like a high-end market tucked into your favorite café.
Service was excellent. Friendly, helpful staff who kept the line moving without making anything feel rushed. I could’ve hung out here all day.
Charleston is lucky to have this place. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Mercantile and Mash is worth a visit. Every time.

Walked in, looked around and walked out. More than half of the people were on laptops, some groups watching a laptop with no headphones. I don't want to sit in a cafe watching people work. Go to the library if you need a space to work. Cafes are supposed to be a social place. I don't want to look at people stressing about work when I'm trying to relax. As a solo travelers, please make Cafes social places again. I was really looking forward to coming here.
Due to a Traumatic Brain Injury and other disabilities associated with that, screens make me sick. I have very limited energy for screen time. And when headphones aren't being used it makes it worse and overstimulated.
MAKE CAFES SOMEWHERE THAT PEOPLE CAN SOCIALIZE AND TALK TO PEOPLE AND MEET PEOPLE AGAIN!

Love the atmosphere. Staff is friendly. However- the food is consistently terrible. Just had a breakfast sandwich with sourdough overly drenched in butter (not in a good way) that was so hard and burned it was actually not palatable. Left after three bites literally. Previously had a burrito wrap that was very basic which doesn’t jive w a 14$ price point. Lack of attention to presentation, portion, and flavor. Incredibly sad because I REALLY want to like this place.

☕️ Mercantile & Mash is such a cool spot in downtown Charleston. The vibe is chic and laid-back — perfect for catching up with friends or getting some work done. I tried the honey latte and it was amazing — just the right amount of sweetness with smooth, rich espresso.
The space itself has a modern-industrial feel with lots of natural light, and there’s always a nice buzz without being too loud. It’s one of those places where you instantly feel comfortable. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to when I’m in the area.

Great work-from-home/study spot. They recommended certain substitutions for my matcha latte, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had! I also tried their limited edition jalapeño bacon egg and cheese bagel. Outside seating was amazing, and there was plenty of parking.

Great. Food was excellent. We were able to take our pup with us and eat outside. I had the corned beef hash with a fried egg. It was great, but the potatoes seemed like the frozen kind. But it was fine. I would definitely go back. Coffee was also great.

Good spot to do some work, can be a little noisy at times but they have awesome diner style breakfast, coffee, sushi and a bakery to boot.

My son attends college in Charleston and I was born and raised in SC. My family & I have been visiting Charleston forever and it’s a Foodie paradise. We are always looking for places off the beaten path that locals live so we tried M&M, which my son has had before.
I had the Big Boss Breakfast-
“Housemade biscuit smothered in Storey Farms sausage gravy served with two eggs any style, choice of bacon, sausage or city ham and hashbrowns”
I was severely disappointed for a $15 basic breakfast platter that other diners kill everyday. I don’t mind paying $15 for a breakfast platter but it better be on point and this was NOT.
My over easy eggs were under cooked and actually made me sick to my stomach. Over easy means gently cooked, not partially raw.
The sausage gravy was horrible.
1- sausage gravy usually contains lots of chunky sausage- mine contained hardly any sausage at all.
2- the “gravy” was broken- which means the sausage fat separated from the milk/cream added to make the gravy because the cook didn’t make a proper roux and cook the flour out & then add milk/cream. And the amount of gravy was very minimal for $15 like they ran out of gravy.
The biscuits, bacon and hashbrowns were on point.
The house coffee was bitter and not very good.
Only 1 register for such a busy place is not enough & the layout can be quite confusing.
Overall I was very disappointed, I expect much better in Charleston!

I have eaten here at least six times and four out of six times my order has been missing ingredients. Their quality control is terrible and not to mention. Their prices are high for what they are serving. $18 for a cheeseburger and no sides is ridiculous. I will not eat there again.
