I hosted my 40 something birthday party at MESU for 20+ people a couple weeks ago. Everything from the event planning with Holly and Abby to the food and drink execution by Chef Mike and our highly attentive server Lauren was top notch. I had a vision for this event and saw it come to life. We could not of had a better time! Don’t sleep on MESU for your next group gathering!!

My boyfriend and I walked in at sat at the bar on a Thursday night. The food was good and the atmosphere was great. The bartender was super personable and attentive, despite being the only bartender. However, one of the managers came out about halfway through our service and was unnecessarily rude to the bartender in front of us and other guests at the bar. I briefly spoke to a woman next to us and we were both put off by the way this manager was treating his staff in front of us. This needs to be addressed. It is completely unprofessional. We won’t be coming back.

I came in a little after 5 on a Tuesday. Since I’m not local, I did an online search and settled for this place after learning that my first choice was closed for a private event. Online there were happy hour specials and the food and reviews looked very impressive. When I was arrived I was greeted by a lovely hostess. She smiled and asked me where I wanted to sit since the restaurant was virtually empty. Once seated with a glass a water, a young man came over and advised me that he would be my waiter. I asked him what the specials were, because I know that without an in-house person running your website things can be inaccurate online. He advised me that, “this is a new menu so we don’t currently have any specials”. I was fine with that response, so i continued with my order. My food arrived very fast, and aside from the “mexican corn”, everything was great. That was until the people at the table in front of me were greeted by their waitress and she immediately ran down the list of happy hour options for them. This seemed odd since I was just told there weren’t any specials. To add fuel to the fire, my waiter was also assisting them and they asked him for clarification about some of the items she mentioned and he quickly assisted them and pointed out things on the menu for them. Sometimes the small things speak the loudest and in this case I’ve decided that maybe this isn’t somewhere myself or my colleagues should visit.

Mesu is our go to dinner restaurant when in Charleston. It offers Mexican-Japanese infusion for a great price (including Wagyu beef). Our server was so friendly, helpful, and personable. The vibe is really fun! I recommend the Wagyu taco (Philly or smashburger).

Fantastic time! It's for sure a hot-spot for young people. There were multiple birthdays and celebrations happening and the music was super loud so it was pretty stimulating. Loved the meal, staff was fantastic, drinks were tasty! My fault for booking a Friday night, but will for sure be back when it's not so bumpin.

Some of the worst food I've had in Charleston. To start the service was abysmal. Most of the night we had empty water glasses. We were never checked on to ask how our meal was and when we ordered sushi we did not receive soy sauce. The sushi was inedible. The fish was not fresh and tasted completely off. The only thing that was pretty good were the dumplings. Super disappointed and we felt sick leaving this restaurant.

Great ambiance and fantastic menu/food. But service was horrible. Meals took a very long time to come to the table and were spread out over a long period of time. Some members of our party were completely finished with their meal before others received theirs. Empty plates and glasses were not bused from the table. We did have a large party (15) but we booked a week in advance. I would expect that they'd be fully prepared.

I can’t explain the level of hospitality and high approach of this place and the people who work here. They are going above and beyond for every guest. The food was exceptional; the skinny roll is out of this world, and everything else tastes really fresh, unique, and delicious. Thank you so much for the unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to come back.

I was fooled by the good reviews that this restaurant would have great food. If you enjoy cheap store bought sushi then you’ll love this place. I should have known this place was going to be a disappointment when I ordered dumplings but was served potstickers.

Eh, not great. Bao bun was not a bao bun, they came deep fried? The pork belly was a slab of fat, no pork. Mahi taco was dry and flavorless. We got a roll, cannot remember the name, but it was okay. Everything was just okay, nothing great. Pricey for what it was. $6 for a single deep fried bao bun. $25 for a roll and $7 for a taco. Service was friendly.
