The mussels were outstanding and at half price. Our fries were not great But overall great value!

I expected more polished service at a French bistro. Our server lacked the finesse and demeanor one expects at a high-end restaurant .We had an inauspicious start when I inquired about mocktails, and the server was dismissive and condescending. I selected Perrier instead, and he said they were out. My husband ordered the coq au vin, which was so salty as to be inedible. I could hardly believe my husband thought so because he has a high tolerance for salty foods. My husband, who has never sent a dish back, sent the coq au vin to the kitchen. When the chef came out to check on our table, he said he had noticed when he tasted the coq au vin that it was too salty. This begs the question: why did he serve it? At the end of dinner, I ordered an espresso; and the server said the machine was broken. The server was not apologetic for any of our inconveniences. All in all, it was a disappointing experience. Find your Charleston magic elsewhere.

Wonderful experience as usual. Food was great- wines first rate and our server was attentive without being overbearing. (Sarah H.) we will certainly return- again and again!!

The host was not welcoming and though we had a reservation we were sat in a very uncomfortable table. Our waitress was very personable and helpful and the meal was delicious.

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at 39 Rue de Jean was frustrating enough to warrant one. The food was incredibly underwhelming, bland, poorly prepared, and far from fresh. For a place that presents itself as upscale, the quality was shockingly low. For reference we ordered: Chicken Francaise Coq Au Vin Grilled Pork Spinach/Cheese Raviolis Service was inattentive at best. It felt like the staff was either overwhelmed or simply uninterested. We had to flag someone down to get fresh silverware and no one checked in during the meal to ask how things were. To top it off, the prices were outrageous given what we received. It felt like we were paying for an experience that just didn't exist. Definitely not worth the hype.

I was a bit apprehensive due to prior reviews that were "all over the place", but I'm glad that we decided to check it out and create our own opinions. We had an amazing dining experience from start to finish. All of the apps were so delicious and filling that we skipped the entrees and jumped right to dessert. Our waitress was amazing and very attentive despite the restaurant being very crowded. If you're looking for a quiet quaint place... this isn't for you (rather noisy). Would recommend for anybody looking for a good dining experience without breaking the bank!!

Excellent Sunday Brunch Menu! Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere here at Rue de Jean! Staff was very accommodating! Food was fantastic!

Good service both at the bar and at the table. Food was disappointing, Catch of the day was flavorless. Scallops were were rubbery and not seared.

Excellent mussels. Very delicious. Had French onion soup also. It was tasty but way too salty. Had Chloe as a server. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Cold brew martini was very good.

39 Rue de Jean is in a great location for anyone seeing a show at the Charleston Music Hall or Music Farm. There is plenty of parking in the visitors center (bus shed) just a couple blocks away.

The second vice was fantastic. Very attentive and knowledgeable and was very accommodating when we couldn’t decide what wine we wanted.

The food is good. In fact, it’s more like 4.5 stars. However, in a foodie city like Charleston it’s a little overshadowed. I had the fried goat cheese salad, which was light and refreshing. My wife got the Caesar salad which was perfectly done, at least for us. Just be aware that you might find anchovy pieces.

My wife got the ravioli with shrimp. The shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked- tender, sweet, and flavorful. My dish was the scallops. The scallops were perfectly cooked and tender. It was very delicious but not super filling, being paired with pearl onions and sprouts. Overall, very good, and I wish I could give 4.5 stars.

First and foremost, this restaurant came recommended, but it was an overall disappointment. The hostess was not friendly or inviting. A frown rather than a smile. I had the French onion soup and it was very thick and luke warm. The large Cesar salad was a side salad portion and the steak was cool, not warm.
I asked for a Last Word cocktail and was disappointed. It tasted like licorice and not served with the correct cherries.
Disappointed because the atmosphere and music are wonderful!

We order 2 escargot
But was only served one as our waiter did not listen- or check back with us about our meal
Then was huffy about wine that was not brought to us during our soup course

Visited Charleston and randomly found this place. So grateful I did!

I ordered the short rib... as the server came out of the kitchen, the meat was glistening. My mouth watered. As the first bit hit my lips, I was surprised... tender. I didn't think I could possibly eat that much; it was quite a bit... but after the first bit, I was ready for the challenge... I got every bit.

Honestly... it was an organic experience! ? it was amazing. Words cannot begin to explain. I can hardly wait to go back to Charleston to go here again!

A fine experience but not the quality I expected. Perhaps my expectations were too high but the food and atmosphere were average. Onion soup was very non traditional (not to my taste). Some unique items that we enjoyed. The duck was tough. Many of the mussel shells were empty. The desserts were the best part. Prices were reasonable. We would go back but with lowered expectations

Wheelchair accessibility: I'd say it's moderately accessible. Rest rooms are difficult to get to.
