Best meal we had while in Charleston! We had the fried green tomatoes, country fried pork chop, and the chicken sandwich. Each one was outstanding

Terrible experience ..We had a reservation at 8:30pm (reservation made in person the day before and confirmed via text)- so we reached ON TIME and were told that the table “is getting ready” and that outside seating wasn’t open (since they had empty tables at the front porch and i had asked about those).… The table “getting ready” wait lasted for 30 mins during which, to our surprise, 2 large groups and a few couples- who “looked” very different from our group - with later reservations (confirmed because i was next to the reception desk) were seated and that included the front porch seating area. Now, ANYWHERE on earth if you have a reservation at a restaurant but it’s taking longer than usual, they at least have the courtesy and honesty to inform you about that or offer you to wait at the bar area. Here, maybe they DIDN’T want us to wait at the bar .. not sure why! May be because we didnt look like their clientele?Anyways, after 30 mins of waiting near the entrance - I demanded to speak to the manager, and there came the RUDEST shock - this arrogant rude guy comes out and throws an attitude saying “oh that happens in restaurants”! This guy’s tone throughout the conversation implied “you guys can get lost .. we dont care”.I have dined at many places across the world (from hole-in-the-wall places to Michelin stars) and I have never experienced this kind of “hospitality”. Also this was the first time in this country that I felt being profiled! So yes Poogans- you DID ALMOST Manage to spoil our evening … but Charleston is full of amazing people who run amazing restaurants .. and we found a wonderful one with fantastic food and more importantly a warm welcome. However, Poogans you did allow me to share this PSA, so that others who look like me can avoid your business …

I wish I could have given zero stars. Had a reservation at 8:30, white folks who had reservations at 8:45 (same party size as ours) got seated, we waited and waited for 30mins and then on asking what’s going on - an extremely rude and racist manager came out to show attitude. Pure racial profiling . I don’t care how good the food is but will never come here and would strongly not recommend to any people of color .

I can’t say enough about this place! The food was absolutely amazing. The crab cake appetizer was phenomenal as well as the pimento cheese fritters. The frisée salad was THE best salad I’ve ever had and the bbq mahi was perfect. Our waiter Zach was the best, especially when I forgot my leftovers, he chased us down the street to give them to me. Thank you Zach!

Three weeks ago was my first time dining at this cute southern establishment. Our meal was great with decent size portions. So why 2-stars? Because of the uninvited guest that was scaling above the wall behind me as I finished my last bite. The waitress at the bar saw our faces as we all gradually moved to one side of the room. She very nonchalantly said..”oh they come in when it rains.” Umm that’s not a helpful marketing strategy mam. The bartender quickly retrieved our checks, accepted payment for the full amount and quickly continued on as if nothing ever happened. He was aware as well and offered no discount. I grew up in Louisville, Ky and know how the south is with insects and warm weather, however that’s no excuse. It ruined the vibe. Still a nice place to eat but beware of match-box car sized roaches that come inside if it rains.

This was our first stop arriving in Charleston! Shocked there were so few choices on the menu. The pimento fritters were awesome. I got the 2 eggs, hash browns and bacon breakfast. Eggs and hash browns were good. Bacon was cooked so hard it was unrecognizable. Shocked the chef would even send it out to a customer to be ate. We also shared a carafe of mimosas. Very good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Not a bad experience overall, but this restaurant would not be a place I would probably return to. Bill for 2 people and tip was $120!

Great experience all around. We did NOT have reservations so we could only sit at the common table in the bar area but still had a great meal and time.Crab dip was very tasty, house salad was huge and so fresh and our entree of lamb shank was absolutely amazing.

The overall food and drinks of Poogan's is amazing. The backstory is great as well. Who doesn't love a place named after a dog? I mean come on, doesn't get better than that. We got the chicken platter, mac and cheese, a salad and the soup. All of it was pretty good. I didn't really love the soup, but my wife did. That probably is just something you like or don't. The service is good once you get seated. However, they seem short staffed. We waited a good bit even with a reservation. They had many empty tables. I know it is hard to get labor now a days, but just wish they were honest about it. I also think any restaurant charging a CC fee is crazy especially with the lawsuit now in place to limit fees. Overall though, I would recommend Poogan's.

Very nice. Not quite as good as some of the other Poogans, but still a good place for dinner. The food was just a tad lacking, and with all the amazing choices on town, it’s hard to say this one is a must visit.Shrimp and grits was decent, but there are better ones in town. Nice staff, good atmosphere, just a tad pricey for the quality.
