Sauer Grapes Wine Shop, Daniel Island

A wonderfully understated-yet-brilliant experience!

On today's tastings, Marie's selections of wines closely mirrors my own - here, Loire reds that are subtle yet distinctive, allowing them to be immediately enjoyable and still memorable., but I'd also now trust her with other selections too.

The accompanying food is also great. Nothing too complicated, but great flavours that stand on their own, but alonsgside the wine produce a truly satisfying combination. Exactly what I was looing for.

Thanks too for your patience and understanding of a late customer who overstayed closing time. I really hope to be back again before the end of my visit (and hopefully again on future), but will take away today's memories regardless.

This is great place to get just the right glass or bottle of wine! My wife and I stopped here on the Fourth of July and Marie picked out a great Sauvignon Blanc and an Orange wine to cool us off after we finished a boat ride.

Sauer Grapes Wine Shop on Rivers Landing Drive on Daniel Island is a great place to go for all things quality wine and drinks. I really like the selection that they have available and the atmosphere that they have created. I have had an excellent experience every time I have been here.

Our favorite wine bar! Marie is knowledgeable and helpful and has never steered us wrong. We love the wine tastings and her yummy snacks. Grateful to have such a great wine bar on Daniel Island!

I never write reviews but I was very unsatisfied with my experience. I enjoy going to wine shops while on vacation and I can truthfully say this is the worst one I have ever been to. The owner did not let me look around at the bottles and only gave me one option to chose from. I was looking forward to exploring the different varietals & instead was handed a bottle & pushed to check out without being able to look at anything else. The store is also sloppy and poorly organized. I arrived at the store hoping to purchase several bottles of wine but the owner’s judge mental attitude towards me did not make me want to give her any business.

You may have visited many wine shops or just a few but your expectations of a wine shop can't prepare you for what's to come when you grasp the handle of the door to this shop. The lights are low when you enter. As your eyes start to adjust you begin to notice case upon case of wine surrounding and towering above you. The glint of light from each bottle, colored by the gems within, sparkle in the corners of your eyes. As the bottles come in to focus, you see groups of wine from near and far... some from places you might only ever visit in your imagination. From the corner comes a voice welcoming you. It’s Marie, the owner of Sauer Grapes, Sauer being her family name. As you begin to look around maybe not quite sure exactly what you want, Marie chats with you. She disappears behind one of the shelves, reminiscent of the wand keeper in Harry Potter, she conjures up the bottle of wine you had on your mind but couldn’t describe. The wizard of wine. You won’t be disappointed visiting this magical shop on Daniel Island.

I felt extremely uncomfortable. She kept telling me to be 6 feet apart from her yet she stood close to other customers as the place was not conducive to social distancing!! I guess I didn't have the right clothes on that made me look like I came from money!! Shame on her!! Plan to go back and make her feel bad about how she treated me. I hope she reads this and feels bad but kinda doubt she will.

Marie Sauer is an incredible hostess and has a spectacular palate for showing her guest’s a fabulous time. Her tactics may not always be traditional, but she always has her guest’s and wine drinker’s best interest in mind. If you are looking for that one special bottle at an extraordinary price or entertaining a party of 50 close friends and loved ones then rest assured, Sauer Grapes is the place to go.
