We were happy to be seated fairly quickly and our service was good. My English muffin for my Benedict was burnt, the eggs were cooked hard, not over-easy, and the house-made mornay sauce was odd, rather bitter and sharp. My partner’s order was much better though. It was a cold day and the staff kept propping the door open even though patrons complained. Fine, propping the door is something you do, but use some common sense!
Stopped in for lunch. Good salad, and chicken salad sandwich. Casual, decent service and reasonable prices. Close to museums.
They were super busy so not the best service, but that’s understandable. The bathroom was extremely dirty as well. Food was decent, but majorly of it game out cold. Probably would not come back.

best potato pancakes literally ever
Portions were large, but food was just okay. Every person at our table that got bacon got burnt bacon. To the point most didn't eat it. On sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast plates. Eggs were undercooked. One person got a pancake and it was burnt on one side. There was a lot of food left on plates.
Our server was definitely impaired, spilled things on the table and almost on us. Depth perception was SO far off. That made for some funny moments to talk about later.
It's a small place. Most places in the area are. Took forever to be seated as a group of five. It was brunch on a Sunday, so we did expect a wait.
Pricing is on par with other places in the area. Most meals averaged $15 per person. Apps were $8/$9.
The one thing they did really well was fried foods. We had the best fried green tomatoes (having sampled others in the area, these were at the top), fried pickles, and fried okra. All were perfectly fried, not overly greasy, and flavorful. And the horseradish sauce that came with the pickles was delicious.
Considering the numerous other options in the area and quality of the food, I will likely not visit again.

Most of the tables were full, but we were able to get a comfortable booth. The diner was cute and appeared to be well-maintained. Our server was friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The food was ready quickly and served hot. My guy loved his Double Deal (pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs) especially his sausage and pancakes. Based on other reviews, I ordered &Grits. It was described as "brown gravy with onions, tomatoes and peppers served over the best stone grits in town, topped with your choice of seafood." I chose the shrimp. It was disappointing, to say the very leasr The plate was literally drowned in the gravy (minuscule amount, if any, of the vegetables). The grits were ruined in all of that gravy. I found 5-6 shrimp buried (they were good). For a city known for the shrimp & and grits, I wasted $18. The biscuit was lacking also. The &Grits should not have left the kitchen. This review has 3 stars due to the Double Deal breakfast.
Our server Suzanne was fantastic! Such a delightful person. Charles the cook was amazing ! Best Grits and Pecan French toast in Charleston! The atmosphere was wonderful and it was all because of the light hearted attitude of the employees! Would 10/10 recommend Sweetwater Cafe on Market Street!

The farmers omelet here might be the best I've ever had! The grits and pancake were great too! Great location in the heart of historic Charleston.
We had a couple great meals at Sweetwater!! Super chill cafe with excellent food. We were just driving through Charleston and had a late lunch. It was busy while we were there, but not overcrowded. We didn’t need to wait for a table. It seemed like a place locals dined at based on overhearing some conversations between staff and customers. Would absolutely go back!

First off, the steak and mushroom omelet was amazing. It was so good I even took a picture. Second, the service was great, Anna and Cassidy were very accommodating, personable and knowledgeable. I will be returning soon!
