The sour with cherries (in the glass) is a good saison sour. The color of deception is a wheat cherry ale that is definitely not bad and the mango hard seltzer is probably the sweetest we tried and made by Revelry Brewing. This is a Small place. Street parking where you can find it. We enjoyed the heat lamp above the picnic table with just a slight chill in the air.

I'm tempted to not review this place. Not because it's bad, but because this is truly a hidden gem of Charleston. This is not your typical brewery. This is a place where you have a couple pints. You don't get hammered here. You enjoy the beauty and art of the craft brew. You relax and chill. There's not party music, no food trucks, no playgrounds for children. Just really really good beer. If you don't appreciate or enjoy beer, don't bother with The Hold. If you do enjoy it, boy you are in for a treat, have fun my friend.

The best sours we have had in Charleston! Very cute atmosphere, highly recommend.

Pretty cool place to drink beer and the only place south of MD with decent sours that I've found. This and revelry are the two stops you should make if you're a beer fan in Charleston. Very cool to be able to drink beer in their small cellar next to their foudres.

The staff is very nice and the bathroom and bar were clean. We had couple of the sours and a barrel aged beer. The beers were solid but they were more one note. Not a lot of complexity or underlying notes.

My wife and I decided to stop in on our way back home at the end of our vacation. This brewery is a boutique brewery and offshoot of Revelry Brewing. Here, they specialize in sours and barrel aged beers. We were excited to try it. We were able to try 4 beers: vanilla blueberry sour, strawberry thyme sour, raspberry sour, and scotch barrel aged ale. Overall, the beers were solid offerings. One constructive criticism is that the sours were all very similar in flavor profile with not as much variation in flavor between them. In other words, they seemed to hit similar notes with not much underlying character. This may have been due to the fact that 3 of them were spontaneous sours brewed with wild yeasts, which means a lot of the process can be outside of the brewer's control. That being said, we were not able to try most of their offerings and I totally recognize that the other beers may have presented a different experience. The location is clean and smells great as breweries do and the staff was friendly. We would like to try them and again as well as the main brewery as I have a feeling my current star rating may be low. I hope to try them again and look forward to updating my review.

Nice small batch brewery with a small inside bar and great sour beer offerings.

The Hold by Revelry is small and unassuming BUT it is one of the finest breweries I have ever visited. Creative sours galore. If you enjoy sippin' on sours, gose, or gueuze style spontaneous fermentation THEN THIS IS A MUST VISIT. I wish I had purchased 20 pints of their spontaneous dark sour Night Fishing instead of only 6.

Burger was greatBeer selection wasn't optimal. But they have tons of sours if you like sours. I'll be back.

Much more “intimate” spot than the main brewery and amazing beers.

A very different and much better experience than their place around the corner. A cozy taproom area with sitting among the fermenters along with a nice outdoor space. Friendly and knowledgeable bartender. Sours are the hallmark brew here and they are delicious.

This place was strange.Really liked the atmosphere but didn’t enjoy our service. Disappointed that you couldn’t taste test any of the items before purchasing a whole tulip. The server was also hanging out with his friends and flirting with girls instead of working...which was pretty uncomfortable for the other patrons. We had:Left to Right:Cylindra: Foeder-aged Beet & BlackBerry Sour Ale.Ramblin Rubus: Fermented Wild Ale with Raspberries.Stupid Sexy: Barrel- Aged American Sour

Went here after having a great experience at the Revelry brewery rooftop today and was expecting something similar. We walked in to an empty place and the bar tender on her phone. We sat down and ordered 3 drinks between the 4 of us (I'm not drinking tonight). We asked questions about the beers on tap and got no answers, just attitude to read the board. As soon as she poured the beers, we were asked to "step away from the bar to make room for future customers". (For perspective, there are 8-10 seat at the bar and 10 seats at the table/high tops and we were the only ones in the place.) So we obliged and went to the outdoor area. I go inside a few minutes later, to use the bathroom, to find 3 people, who seem to be personal friends of the tender by the amount of gossip that was happening, sitting in the seats we were told to vacate.

This place has the best sours in the area. If you aren't into sour beer you will probably not enjoy it, but if you are then it's a must visit for sure.

Intimate hideaway with a great selection of brews including the new limited release of Sea Island Beer! The release party was fun and the food by Chef BJ Dennis was delicious!!!
