WOW! What a amazing choice for lunch! Wait staff is very friendly. The girl at the bar provided amazing service! Restaurant is clean and very pleasant. Food was awesome! The BLT was probably the best ive had to date.
I will make this a regular stop to experience other food options and more amazing service. Thank you to everyone at The James!

This was our first dinner since moving to James Island and the food and service were both amazing! The filet was cooked to perfection. The pecan crusted chicken was crunchy on the outside and so moist and tender. The use of sweet potato purée and cherry sauce were amazing final touches. Recommend the creme brule for dessert. As it was our anniversary the dessert was on the server. At must go if you are in Charleston.

This is our third visit to the James. I will admit that the first time we visited the restaurant I was underwhelmed by the service and food. I always believe and trying a new location twice and I loved it the second time so we are now at our third visit and recommend everyone visit. The service was over the top. I wish I could remember the waiters name but he was incredible. The food was over the top great. I had the steak special and it was perfect it had a nice salty crust yet med to med rare in the middle just like the way I like it. If I could I would go at least ones a week. Great food, service, and atmosphere. You won't regret going.

We are definitely heading back for dinner. I had the prime rib melt and it was amazing. The fried green tomatoes were so crispy and delicious. Great drinks, great staff, and awesome food.

We visited The James for dinner tonight and it was an amazing experience! Jacob, our server, was just the best. Our meals were outstanding. My husband had the prime rib (and said it was the best he ever had) and I had the halibut special - so delicious. We will definitely be regulars now.

At first glance, the food was good, the service was good, but the takeaway thoughts were conflicted.

First, I am almost always turned off by restaurants of this caliber that parse out their wine by the ounce. Having a glass a wine or two with dinner at an "upscale" restaurant is at least half the enjoyment of the meal for a wine lover. It cheapens things when you are asked how many ounces you want, only to find out that the $14.00 glass came from a bottle of wine that only retails for $15.99!

We also requested to share the 14 0z prime rib -which was more than enough meat for 2 women. We were told sure, but we would have to cut it in half ourselves at the table. They would not cut it for us. I have eaten at many steak houses and fine restaurants and requests like this are almost always met with happy accommodation. Unfortunately, at the James, it was not the case. They supplied us with a steak knife and said have at it. I even had to ask for an additional plate so that we could share it, and to make matters worse we asked for medium rare, and it came out rare and somewhat cold.

Then we both ordered dessert that incredibly were topped with cool whip, not whipped cream. Really? Again, sort or cheesy, not to mention that cool whip is so bad for you.

Lastly, we were also required to pack up our leftovers at the table ourselves, like we were dining at some tavern or pub. Again, dined at a lot of restaurants at this level who take your plates to the kitchen and bring you back the box...in a bag. Not here.

The bill arrived at over $130.00 for 2 people, and while the cost is not my issue here; we did enjoy the food, we were a bit dismayed with the overall lack of service and ambiance that you would expect from a more upscale restaurant.

On a happy note, however, I will state that our waitress was wonderful! Friendly, happy and attentive.

Never asked to leave a restaurant in my life. I'm 69 years old. I have a service animal, with records and we gave her a treat under-the-table.
Because she so good we were so offended.
Would not bring my dog to this place.
The manager, whose name is melanie, should be fired immediately. If I was the owner of this establishment. She actually broke the law. But these are battles I'm too busy too fight. Just wanted to let you know if you care.
About the disabilities of your family and friends. Out of principle, I would avoid this place if you have Respect For the creatures who bring us service To get us through our day.

Great old fashioned menu. Well prepared and they had my old favorites. Just a bit pricey. Seems to be a local favorite.

I have visited the James a couple of times and the food has been amazing. My husband and I ate there with our children and not only was the main menu fantastic but there was a great variety of kids options that were fresh as opposed to prepackaged foods. The restaurant is on the smaller side but very nice and the service is outstanding.
