We were in town for a quick trip. Family was attending a gathering at the S bar next door. My husband and I love to try local bbq especially when visiting the southern regions of the US. As we were greeted by staff, it was not the warm southern greeting you would expect. Staff was pleasant but I could tell they weren't the friendless. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in the meal. Ribs were definitely frozen a few times along with being boiled. Now with this being a local spot I would have expected a nice smoked rib. Or at least the meat to be fresh. The only thing I can say was the Carolina mild sauce was good. I would not recommend this bbq to anyone that is an experienced bbq lover. We have better bbq up North. To be 100% honest.

The food is usually good, and the service is great. Rice was not cooked well so it threw off the hash and rice. It was overcooked and sticky. The prices are also decent for thr amount of food you get if Rice cooked appropriately.

Been coming to Big T's since someone at work took me to the Gadsden location back in 1998. Got the hash and rice plate, with mac and cheese and collard greens. Great as usual. Was going to take some of it home but finished it off at the restaurant.

Best barbecue in Columbia hands down! I've been eating here since I was in high school, and that was a LONG time ago.

Don’t let the strip-mall location fool you — Big T’s BBQ is the real deal.
We were in town for a Fort Jackson graduation and wanted real local food. The moment we walked in, that mustard-forward Carolina barbecue aroma hit us, and we knew we were in the right place.

I asked what they recommended, and they pointed me toward the hash and rice dinner. This was my first real Carolina barbecue, so I didn’t know what to expect — but it was excellent. The hash was rich and comforting, the barbecue was tender and full of flavor, the mustard greens and cabbage tasted like genuine Southern home cooking, and the cornbread was amazing.
Portions were generous, too — you definitely won’t leave hungry.

And the sweet tea deserves its own line.
This wasn’t weak or watered down — it was strong brewed tea, sweet enough to glaze a donut.
Exactly how sweet tea ought to be.

If you’re in Columbia or near Fort Jackson for a graduation and want honest, no-nonsense Southern food that locals actually eat, Big T’s is absolutely worth the stop.

The front desk staff at the hotel I was at recommended this place as good local eating. Located in a shopping plaza near a planet fitness. Very mom & pop restaurant. The staff was very nice and patient with me being undecided and I didn’t feel rushed. I got a simple pork rib dinner with mac &
Greens as my side. It was bad but I wasn’t blown away. Alot of the customers was getting the hash and rice dish which might be a signature and I wish I had also tried that but I didn’t want to hold the line up with too many questions. But I will say I would come back to try other things if I’m in town again.

The Food was very disappointed
And oh what was the oxtail, looked like stew beef. Or neck bones, the Rice was dry.and over priced for everything.!!!!had no flavor for no selections.the mustard Greens, were presented like they tasted, dumped in a over crowded pot in covered,it was so disappointed I gave it away.there was no effort.in this meal.

Variety of entrees available. I tried the fried chicken and french fries and it was pretty tasty. I also got some banana pudding for dessert and was not disappointed. It was also good.
