Due to it being an on-campus location, this place is always crowded, no matter the time of day. The wait times are extrodinarily long as is, but the underskilled staff make it more unbearable. Not entirely the fault of the staff, however, as the other Starbucks location on-campus has the same issue. The drinks I got a few times were well-made, but, otherwise, not worth the wait for sugar-filled drinks.

I order my usual. A latte with 2 pumps of sugar free vanilla and 1 Splenda. She pointed across the store and told me it’s over there and that I can put it in myself. I asked why, because I’ve been coming to Starbucks for years and I’ve never been asked to make my own coffee at a coffee shop. She said it was across the store and it was too busy and crowded for her to walk over there to get it. I’m confused as to why there isn’t any behind the counter? How do they expect to make mobile orders? Shouldn’t there be a level of consistency through all stores, instead of choosing to provide a service only when it’s convenient for the staff?

Two registers, but only one person who can use them, leads to nine employees standing around with nothing to do while someone refills a bunch of gift cards. Which would have been forgivable if the middle of my sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich wasn't cold.

Even though this is one of the busiest Starbucks in Columbia and specifically on USC’s campus, the staff is always so warm, welcoming, and hard-working. I go to a lot of different Starbucks in the area including the Lexington, Irmo, and Sandhills area, while all locations have very friendly staff, this particular location always stands out to me. Many of them seem to build strong connections with customers while simultaneously managing the constant rush of tired students and staff getting to class. They really do seem to always be on their A-game!

Absolute slowest Starbucks on campus. I was 45 minutes early to class and ended up being LATE because of the slow workers who are socializing while we are all anxious to get to class. I hate this place.
