Stopped eating here after I brought home food. (Was working here at the time) I was very sick. I emailed one of the owners with no response. Still to this very day never addressed it. Stomach was messed up for the following three days. Like really bad really sick. Sticking close to the toilet type of sick. Meat sick definitely.

Food is cooked perfectly and in big servings, kids love the food prep show ? The staff are all great from the one who got us seated, the cook, and I think our waiter was a trainee but nonetheless they were nice.

We are long time Sumo customers since they opened and decided to try the new ownership. We walked in and were told it was an hour wait for a hibachi table so we sat at a regular table. The waitress was nice and came fast, quickly taking our orders and brought out the food fast. However we heard her complaining to the other servers about taking walk ins right Infront of our table. Our food was brought out and the soup, salad, and gyoza was good. Although the hibachi was cold, the vegetables weren't cooked, the steak was cut into strips and not cubes and was messy and still half attached. Portions were much smaller and the rice was dry.

Arrived for early bird, was charged for full price after ordering the early bird, claiming they provided full portions, when we got the same portions as others on my table(who were charged for early bird) Also was told they have apple pay, when it came time to pay was told they don’t, making me put the burden on my friend. After being served drinks the first time, it was impossible to get the attention of the waiter. At one point when desperate I tried to do the hand wave with eye contact tactic, and after making eye contact, the server still never came by to ask if we needed anything. But it the food was still amazing, the chef was really fun, and we still managed to make memories so overall not that bad.

We have been going to sumo's for years. Tonight would have been the first time under their new ownership, and we were stopped at the hostess stand, to inform us that they were no longer were seating people for the night. WHAT..... the time was 7:50p.m. on a Saturday night(3/2/24) for 2 people... Terrible in my opinion! Guess we are on the hunt for a new Japanese restaurant to be able to enjoy!Edit response: We were a party of 2...... not 10! But I have seen that Sumo's management has responded to most of the current reviews with the same response!

We did not eat here. We were never given the chance. But their lack of customer service due to the situation below drives the one star review. We called ahead before even driving to the restaurant, they took our name, party number, and phone number. We went into the restaurant when we received a text that said our table was ready. We waited a little while in the entry way by the host stand only to be told "We are closed." This was at 7pm on a Saturday. There was little apology in the statement. It is so frustrating to have driven across town after speaking with someone on the phone and have them not inform us when we called ahead that they were closed.

The chefs are great and entertaining. The food is good, but the restaurant itself can use some updating. I was so disgusted by the food built up on this table. All the rice is just down in the crack.

Whomever the new owners are changed the trajectory of this restaurant! The food 10/10, the service impeccable, the ambience was just perfect for our birthday celebration, the midlands desperately needed a great hibachi place, and SUMO is it, can’t wait to return!

We used to come often while Ms. Lee was the owner and loved it. This new owner should be absolutely ashamed. We waited 40 minutes for a table and were sat with 3 young ladies. No one knew who our server was, it took 20 minutes for one (who was absolutely doing her best, and did great) came to start our orders. The two tables next to us were sat down a could 5-10 minutes after us were served first, got their food first, and one left just as our chef started. We sat for over an hour before getting a chef , there was absolutely no warning of how long it would be. One of the girls at our table had wanted no vegetables and didn’t realize she had to specify extra rice, and got an attitude from the manager when she said something afterwards. The server wanted to discount our meal and the “manager” discounted it…5% and when my mother in law asked because not every check was discounted. She sat there and argued with my mother in law, talked down to her, and made it official that we will not come back. If that is how your manager is going to, you will run a business to the ground. We were there for just under 3 hours, with no warning other than the possible hour wait for a table. 3 hours wasted with a young toddler. I won’t be shocked if this restaurant doesn’t sink by the end of the year. Yall couldn’t handle being busy and started turning people away over 2 hours before closing.Edit since I can’t reply to their response- We did not have a party of 10. We had 5 adults and a 1 year old who ate off my plate. We were sat with 3 college students who were lovely and just as frustrated by the end. There were multiple parties with 6 or more adults. The slowness of service had nothing to do with how many of us there were in my opinion. Your host staff made our party large by sitting two groups with each other. Which was fine, we just wanted to fed in a timely manner and not 2 hours after getting seated. The fact that you try to blame your efficiency on party size is laughable. It would not have mattered how many of us were sitting there, we still would have been ignored for a hot minute, while the two tables who had the same number of people at each mind you, would still have been served way before us. You know the two tables who sat down after us, not before or even at the same time.
