I heard from a lot of people that these ribs would “make you want to slap your momma,” so my expectations were high. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed. The ribs didn’t fall off the bone and lacked any real smoky flavor—definitely not “slap your momma” good. The brisket tasted like it may have been cooked on a pit, but again, there was no smoky goodness to back it up.
The coleslaw tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a few days. The only standout item was the mac and cheese, though the portion was pretty limited. They do throw in a free dessert, but I passed on the Little Debbie snack cake.
For what you get, the prices felt a bit steep, even though they clearly take pride in their menu. One more thing—brace yourself at the front counter, as the staff’s personality definitely makes an impression.
Also, be prepared: there’s no covered seating, so bring a coat, an umbrella, or plan to take it to go.

Had the rib combo and the ribs were so tough I struggled until I couldn’t anymore. The dessert was a breakfast pastry from Sam’s Club. I was thinking I would actually get a piece of cake. Food was premade so it was served lukewarm warm. Was craving BBQ but this was the worst BBQ meal that I have experienced. Unfortunately I will not return!

The atmosphere reminds me truly of a family BBQ , the aromas and the atmosphere of the people and place is amazing! And let’s get into the food , AMAZING, i’ve eaten here for a majority of my childhood and it has never disappointed !! Ronnie is an amazing person and acknowledges every customer !

Ronnie’s Ribs in Elgin is hands-down one of the best food spots around! Ronnie truly loves what he does — you can taste it in every bite. The service is personal, the food is delicious, and he always goes above and beyond. My boyfriend Mario and I go almost every Sunday because the oxtails are some of the best in Columbia, and the chicken salad is amazing! Ronnie even made me a special batch without eggs — it was perfect. If you haven’t tried it yet, you need to. You won’t be disappointed!

I was surprised I only got 2 oxtails in this plate. Every other restaurants give atleast 3 or 4 oxtails. I paid 30 dollars for this plate. I probably will not order the oxtails from here anymore. It was OK in tasting just felt cheated.30 dollars for 2 oxtails is definitely not worth the price.

Was looking forward to eating here based off the reviews. Unfortunately we were very disappointed and still hungry. Waited about 25 minutes for a 3rib plate. Ribs were very tough, macaroni was very dry and looked old, hash rice was upsetting rice was hard. The only thing good was the potato salad and the Hawaiian roll.
