The Kava Konnection

I learned of Kava Konnection years ago. Now that I’m married my husband and I drive all the way from Spartanburg to get our FAVORITE Kava Kolada! Every time we go we are always met with the most kindest staff and they make our drinks to perfection! Also the esthetic of the place is so cozy and inviting. We love it!

I have an amazing time each visit I have! I come here to study, but other times I come for a friendly chat with the people here as well.
It’s a very friendly atmosphere with the employees and customers they have here. I feel welcomed each time I come.
The drinks are also very delicious and they have a diverse many that many can enjoy.
It can get a little loud at times when it’s busy, but it’s a small space and people are generally helpful in fitting you in.

I’ve visited this bar periodically ever since it opened. For the first year or so it was a cool spot. It has since become a wasteland for growth or positivity. This place is run and staffed by extremely nasty people who will literally ask you to leave if you don’t match their expectations for what someone is supposed to buy, wear, say, or do. The staff watch everyone in the shop and keep track of what they’re buying and doing. If you’re not buying a drink every hour they ask you to leave. If you’re smoking AND they don’t like how you look or act, they ask you to leave (they allow some people to smoke, including themselves) They all ride motorcycles, all stick together in one group, and they all act like they are better than everyone. Being in this place makes my skin crawl, literally (do your research. don’t drink their drinks they are not healthy for you or your liver).

I stopped by this kava bar hoping to find a relaxed, welcoming space, but it felt like I was stepping into a private club for regulars only. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly cliquey, with the regulars forming tight-knit groups that clearly weren’t interested in anyone new. I felt like an outsider from the moment I walked in, and the staff did little to change that impression—they seemed more invested in chatting with their regulars than offering genuine hospitality and more annoyed if anything. Just very rude.

To make matters worse, their advertising is over-sexualized for a kava bar, which adds an uncomfortable edge to the place. It doesn’t match the laid-back vibe I expect from a kava lounge and only made the atmosphere feel even more exclusive and uninviting.

I’ve been coming to Kava close to daily for a year (minus 4 days!). I have had nothing but good experiences with the staff, service, and drinks. The staff is very knowledgeable about what they serve and if you’re ever dissatisfied with drinks/ products they are more than willing to remake or change things to your preference (within reason of course). They’ve made this place a very welcoming and safe environment and are great at keeping it that way. This establishment has an outstanding group of staff and regulars/customers, who have become a huge part of my life over the past year. I’m beyond grateful for having been introduced to this place and thankful for the staff who have made it clear to me, and others, that they value us and our experience here.

This bar is serving kratom tea made with powder rather than the leaf of the kratom plant, this makes the effects of the kratom last for a shorter time with all the worst side affects, shaking, nausea, and dizziness, it also makes the tea far more addictive making it easier for their clients to become physically addicted to the product with withdrawal symptoms similar to those of opioid withdrawals. This is the easier cheaper way out for the business and has been proven at other kava bars to be the WORST method for the customer/ consumer. When i asked a staff member to explain the difference between two drinks for me he seemed completely lost and clearly didn’t have menu knowledge. The staff is also inhospitable and aggressive, they’re are plenty of lounge areas and people doing work, studying, and having meetings making it appear similar to a coffee shop where you can grab a nook and a drink she get some work or phone calls done, yet even if you go there regularly and make purchases they aggressively approach you to make a purchase immediately after arriving, opening at noon and trying to force customers to start their day with a product that will make them high and impair they’re function for the rest of the day. Furthermore they make the tea unreasonably strong by using the powder and if you don’t buy more than one tea in a short time of being there, they claim you “haven’t bought anything at all” implying it is not enough to bring friends and all purchase 1-2 drinks. This is not a bar and is more similar in atmosphere to a coffee shop, yet just this morning i went to do some work at a fabulous local coffee shop and only purchased one matcha along with my friend who also purchased one drink; while we did a few hours of work. As someone who has worked in bars, kava bars, and coffee shops this is very typical if it’s mid day and you’re not at a bar/ night club being force fed drinks. This bar should provide a more welcoming environment if they want lasting regular customers and they have proven to me multiple times now they don’t care about their customers which was and should have been obvious to me when i found out they were using powder!

The Kava Bar is the most chill, boho, eccentric hangout that you need to put on your date night list. They offer lots of different Kava options including sedating and uplifting premium strains. The clientele and staff are laid back. Board games, books, and musical intruments are free for the borrowing. Couches and tables to sit down and get some serious relaxation in.

This place is very different which I absolutely love to try different things. The Kava is different it will take getting use to the numbing and tingle in/on my tongue was very interesting. The server was patient and explain everything let me try samples to see if Kava was a yay or nay for me. Which it was and went back a second time. Definitely will be back for the occasional need to wind down and relax.

Good coffee and drinks. Staff was courteous and helpful. Atmosphere was quirky, but I liked it. You can try things here you may have not had before.
