Wait staff need to read the room. They sat me an my niece at a 2 top between two couples that were clearly on a date. There were other 2 tops available. There were bar seats available so we moved. The short ribs were really good. The chicken schnitzel, not so much. It was dry and bland. It was a good experience and if I’m in Greenville, I would try it again.
This place is by far one of the best places to eat and drink in Greenville. I have never gotten a bad meal here. Scarlett, Courtney, Brandon and Mandy always go out of their way to take care of my family and I. My daughter Sophia and I regularly eat here, and the staff treats us like family. Try them out, you will not be disappointed. And if I may offer some unsolicited advice, place a reservation a few days ahead of time.

Love this place. Delicious, often hard to find trappist beers. Visited on a Sunday night so seating was plentiful and we had a lovely chat with with bartender Braden. We visit every time we are in Greenville and will be back again!!

We love this place for the duck and excelkent beer selection. It is in a renovated cellar that is quaint. The bad thing is the noise level is about as loud as it can get, and very difficult to hold conversation.

Haven’t been here in years. My wife and I were reminiscing about the best Moscow Mule in Greenville with the hand hammered ice. I guess they have changed the recipe because the 2 drinks we got were 90% ice. Never felt like I actually got any drink, just watered down ginger beer. Super disappointing

Reservations needed even on a Monday. This place was hopping. Hostess kindly asked another couple to scoot down so we could eat at the bar. European comfort food at its finest. Great beer selection. If I lived in Greenville I'd eat here daily until my wallet or my belt gave way.

On September 19, 2025 I took a friend to dinner to thank her for doing a favor. When handed the sticky-feeling menu, we should have walked out. My friend ordered mussels mariniere; (I ordered another selection; there was no problem with it. ) The mussels arrived in a bucket with broth. Despite her best efforts she could not dig out more than a little fingernail sized sliver of tissue from ANY of the shells ; ALL were nearly empty. We immediately contacted our waiter. He explained that the mussels were in a juvenile stage and extra were added to the serving portion. He would make adjustment to the bill. She soldiered on…trying to find enough food. I doubt she excavated a tablespoon full of flesh. She also said that broth with the mussels was not tasty probably because there was insufficient mussel material to flavor it. Had we not ordered the Brussels sprout salad, she would have left the table hungry. The adjustment to the bill? On a $28 entree, there was a "generous "$2.80 was deducted. A competent waiter would have warned us. A responsible kitchen would NOT have served seafood in an immature stage. A good manager would have comped the entire entree - or replaced it with an alternative. Sloppy administration on all levels. A letter explains this was sent to the establishment to report the problem - and how it was handled. There was no reply.. In summary this was THE poorest restaurant experience I have ever had in my 50 years of dining both locally , regionally and internationally.
Sigh...
Probably our fault that we had such high hopes. Our friend who owns a German restaurant up in Hendersonville recommended this place, and we love his food, so we probably had our hopes too high up.
But nah. Meatballs need salt and had this bachelor-home-cook sogginess to them. Too sweet. Fries were soggy which was an immediate deal breaker for me
The mushroom appetizer was pretty good.
My wife's flemish beef stew was a small portion and not outstanding. Beer prices are steep.
Server was cool. Staff are nice people

We come to Greenville each year for vacation just to dine at The Trappe Door. We love everything about the restaurant from the food, the beer, and service. This most recent time we had Brayden as our server. Brayden also is a bartender. He is very knowledgeable about beer and what pairs well with the menu items. We absolutely love this place and look forward to our next return

We tried this restaurant on the advice of a friend and were very disappointed. The three of us ordered the fried brussel salad ($13) as an appetizer as the portion was very large and could feed 4 people. The brussels were very close to being burnt and didn't have a good flavor. It also was a long wait for our entrees. Two ordered the 7oz filet & frites ($46). The steaks were cooked as ordered but nothing special. With the frites, you can choose 3 different sauces; again nothing special. I ordered the pan seared salmon and the portion was huge. I wished it was cooked a bit more and my complaint was the very salty taste to the fish. A bottle of sauvignon blanc was $50. Old fashioned drinks were $12 each. I would not recommend nor return to this restaurant. We told our server we were celebrating two birthdays and nothing was offered. Most restaurants would bring a small cake or something but nothing at this place.
Good food and service. We're from Charleston so my 5 star standards are realistic. For a small tourist town this was very good.
